Well things haven’t progressed as well as I might have hoped.

Nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain continue to plague her recovery, apparently it's a common complication in back and spine surgery, perhaps related to her pain meds ---> her belly hurts more than her back.

It's been 5 days for her without much food. She's hungry but she looses it after a while.

I just ordered breakfast for her today ; apple sauce and fruit ice – maybe she'll keep that down.

Last evening we walked around the unit quite a bit to get her bowels moving, this morning she's not up to it.

Drainage tubes will come out today, they will stop the continuous infusion of pain meds and transition to intermittent intravenous meds until she can begin oral pain killers.

Well her bowels are still troubled.

At times her heart fails within her in angush.

It suffers her to eat.
We're waiting on her bowels to open up and gush forth

Still the Lord is her strength and shield.
Daily she looks to him for power, and he failith her not!

(isn't KJV English great! lol)

Prayer:

Refresh her bowels O Lord,
Holdeth her back in the straight and narrow without pain.
May the bread of life sustain her in her troubles.

(I'm getting a bit punchy spending the last 3 days and nights in the hospital)

She's still on a very limited diet - one container of applesause yesterday.

Maybe Wednesday or Thursday we'll be out???
Nights are tough but things are getting better!!!

It's not really constipation but almost an illeus - things just aren't working yet.

Until she passes gas she's stuck in the hospital taking intervenous pain medications.

She's getting IV fluids intemittently but she's able to drink some water too

Things are looking up today with my daughter.

Looks like at least one more night in the hospital for us - I only packed for two so I'm beginning to look a bit disheveled.

She may be discharged Thursday or Friday... depending on her bowel status - still waiting for things to move.

She is walking a lot. Most of her IV medications have been switched over to oral meds.

The pain pills are controlling her pain fairly well.

She started eatting a bit of solid food this morning and is tolerating it well.

We met a student nurse this morning who had the same surgery done 3 years ago. She is a Christian who attended Grove City College in western PA.
She was very encouraging and brightened our day.

Thank you all so much for your prayers

My daughter is doing well and ready to leave the hospital.

We've been given the okay to head home later today; we're just waiting for a few more lab reports.

Yes, she is doing well, but it will be a long recovery.

The first few days at home were tough but she's beginning relax

The post-op rule is no BLT's for three months - no Bending, no Lifting and no Twisting.

She has a body brace to help her - I think it's her fourth one now.

She detests this one, it doesn't fit right... and she's an expert.

She says it was measured while she was sitting and before the surgery to boot.

Since then she's grown an inch so her body shape is different and when she stands it hurts.

She's still taking pain meds but not as many as before, about ever 7 to 8 hours or more.

I've been taking long walks with her each eveining and that seems to help relieve some stress.
We've never really been very close, (her being the youngest of three daughters) --- so this is a real pleasure for me.

Her first post-op visit is tomorrow afternoon where a few lingering concerns will be dealt with.
After that she has an appointment with the brace shop.

Well we've been back in the hospital since last Friday with nausea, vomiting and shortness of breath.

The emergency room x-ray showed a pleural effusion and in two procedures earlier this week, they got about 3 liters of fluid off her left lung. Wow - that's alot of fluid!

She still nauseous and losing weight so the studies continue.

Today she had an endoscopy and barium swallow.

Pray that we find out what's causing her poor appetite.
Pray that she keeps her spirits up.
Pray that God gives us direction regarding whether she will be healthy enough to go back to college in mid-August.
