I went to Raleigh this past Thursday evening with a few old army buddies to attend the Captured by Grace rally at the RBC Center (NCSU basketball arena). The 3/4 of the arena that was used was nearly packed (I would guess 12,000 people). I have listened to Rev Jeremiah on the radio numerous times and never knew he was a Southern Baptist preacher until he stated it in his opening remarks. It was a great evening; he preached a wonderful message of God's redemptive love from Luke 15 (on the prodigal son). Were any of you all there? Bruce

You get the award for Most Cryptic Tread Title of the Week. My first thought was, "Has there been a ransom demand?" :D

I wasn't there, I know who David Jeremiah is, but I've never heard of the Captured by Grace Rally.

I really enjoy Dr. Jeremiah. Great Pastor and teacher.

Thanks for this info I hadn't heard. I knew Shadow Mt. Church was a "Community" church right?

I think we got him in 2003 time frame. Terms weren't announced, but I think it involved a conditional draft pick for a later draft [IMG]

I listened to him preach before he was SBC, and I thought "I bet this guy is SBC." Then I thought I'd heard that they joined, but couldn't find anything definitive.

Jeremiah grew up in the General Association of Regular Baptist Churches and attended Cedarvale University (long associated with the GARBC and now also associated with the SBC), where his father was president for many years.

Not sure exactly when Shadow Mountain (Jeremiah became pastor there after Tim LaHaye left in 1981) affiliated with the SBC, but Jeremiah has been writing for Baptist Press since 2004.

I received a letter from BBN radio that they were dropping David Jermiah from their station due to Jermiah endorsing contempory christian music. His radio program does not include any music. Apparently his new music director "is using the dominating sound of CCM to represent Turning Point". BBN was carrying Turning Point free of charge.

A few weeks ago on BBN, Lowell Davies, BBN president, went so far as to suggest CCM is not christian. Personally, I do not care for CCM. However, far be it from me to suggest that someone that worships the Lord with CCM is not christian.

    Very dissappointed in BBN.

I have been listening to Jeremiah for many years on the radio. I think I remember when his church used to be called Baptist something and they made a big deal to change the name so that it didn't reflect any denomination. But he has been some kind of Baptist for as long as I have been listening to him - about 15 years I think.

He is one of my favorite TV/Radio preachers.

I think he has been a Southern Baptist. I believe he is even on the board of Southeastern Seminary. I know he has spoke in chapel at SEBTS many times.

I have watched DJ on the television and I like his teachings. I would someday like to see him in person as he teaches the Word.

That' make two good radio preachers they've dropped: first John MacArthur (twice) and now DJ...What a shame.

Shadow Mountain was formerly Scott Memorial Baptist in El Cajon Ca. If I am not mistaken they were also the overseers of the Institute of Creation Research (Dr Morris and Gish) and Christian Heritage, a small Bible college.

A great teacher (emphasis mine) I have nearly all of his books and there are a bunch. Since I listen BBN a lot I will probably find another station that carries DJ

He has some issues, mainly with his church music.

However, he does say a lot of good, and I wouldn't say he is a false teacher or "ear tickler." Maybe if you like shooting from the hip, not "proving all things," etc. you'll call him a liberal or ear-tickler.

I'm hoping he goes from the SBC to an Independent Baptist church kind of church, or perhaps, just joins the group of good, ol' fashioned Southern Baptists, like the ones that are associated w/ Camp Zion, in Myrtle, Mississippi. [IMG]

Dr. J's dad helped to found Cedarville University.
He has been a Regular Baptist up until recently when his church joined the SBC.
Back around 96 or so I heard him speak at SEBTS chapel. It was his first time there. He also did a revival service that week at Mt. Vernon Bapt . in Raleigh. That is a strong, conservative SBC. Alot of SEBTS students attend there. I know I did while going to SEBTS.
Anyway, I knew something was up back then when he was preaching at the chapel. I told my wife back then that I bet you anything SBC folk are "courting" him to join the convention.
I currently live in Ohio. I have been affiliated with SBC and GARBC. Alot of your more traditional GARBC churches and men have gotten pretty upset at Cedarville being an approved SBC school even though it receives no monies from the SBC. At any rate Ohio GARBC fellowship loves it's college. Cedarville that is. So the men who wanted to part ways with Cedarville were basically the minority at the last Oh.Garbc annual fellowship meeting.

The Pastors Conference in Jacksonville is not an official "SBC" event. But it is hosted By FBC-Jax. Shadow Mountain joined the SBC around 2001-2002.
