Both would be servants but only the husband would be in the official position of deacon. The role of deacon is only for men but all believers should be servants to one another.

The qualifications for elders and deacons are not qualifications for "super-Chrisitans", they are qualifications for Christians that will be examples for others to follow.

With the exception of the ability to teach in the case of the elder, the qualifications found in I Tim. 3 are simply what every mature Christian possess.

    peace to you:praying:

I thought we were talking about the Bible. Never is any church described as having "elders and deacons". Churches' "elders" are occasionally mentioned, as are "bishop(s) and deacons", but never in the Bible do you find the pairing "elders and deacons". Perhaps you got your Bible and your deluxe leatherbound Presbyterian Book of Order mixed up?

Isn't there a Bible word for "mature Christian?"

    Could it be......................."elder"?

    I Peter 5:1,5
The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder
    . . . .
Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder.

Old habits are hard to break.

    "overseers and deacons" then.

I don't even know what a "Presbyterian Book of Order" is, but I'm sure you will explain it to me.

Is it anything like the "Big Book of Sarcasm"? You seem to excel at that; or at least that is what you do most often.

    peace to you:praying:

    Sorry.

Maybe the book was Uncle Tom's Cabin?
I mean, with all this talk about "overseers"

Is this some kind of lame attempt to thinly veil a racial slur?

Say what you mean if you are able.

    peace to you:praying:
