It is sad when people only see each other on sunday and then don't see each other at all throughout the week.

You have 300 members. How many of those attend at least 75% of the time? I'm guessing about 200. If you have 20 folks that are the "core" group of leadership, then that's 10% of the "active" membership. That's not bad and good place to start.

Plan a meeting with the "core" group along with your pastor and staff and figure out how to get the active membership plugged into service. Often, people don't volunteer because they are not asked or invited; or they think all the places of service or ministry are taken up.

Be thankful that your husband is active and serving - you are blessed. So many wives at my church come without their husbands.

Some folks avoid business meeting because they have grown tired of them (i.e., long-winded appeals and speeches, arguments, heated discussions, political agendas, etc.). Be patient with them in this area. I can certainly understand the way they feel.

Finally, regardless of size and success, you will always have folks that will be on the fringes of fellowship that never really plug-in.

    That's my 2-cents or whatever it's worth.

    Churches are like Battleships.

Then need lots of room and lots of time to turn around.

Our first church (I was Assoc. Pastor for Youth and College) lost its pastor and, after much discussion on direction/philosophy etc, opted for a strongly charimatic (little 'c') new evangelical.

Church immeidately headed that direction. I left to assume a senior pastorate, but visited with some of the deacons about the fact that "once you start down that road, a church seldom turns back".

Well, Bethany Baptist was the exception. After a number of years and thru the prayer/work of a handful of "live" members, the pastor left and Dr Doug McLachlan was called. Doug is the author of Reclaiming Authentic Fundamentalism, a must read tome.

So, long story short, there IS hope as long as there is one knee that has not bowed to ba'al . .

Rich, I still can not figure out why people who never miss a Sunday worship will not cone to anything else. The way we are have study on midweek service, that is the one I get the most from but we have maybe 4-6 people.
