Sorry.... no link...... but I heard her statement on FoxNews earlier this afternoon.

I support that decision in this case:
1-as the 14 year-old (now 16 years-old) victim's mother did not want her son to be victimized any further due to a trial.
2-the perp is in counseling for her manic-depression (syndrome/disease?)
3-the perp claimed to be a Christian
4-she is wearing an ankle alert bracelet.

....among other things that were brought up during the press conference.

I think you'd have to have heard that press conference to comment on this, but likely it will be all over the news in a few hours.

What do you think about this newest twist in the events???

Are any of you as convinced as I am that this is the correct decision???

If it were a 23-year-old male teacher with a 14 year-old female student would the charges have been dropped?

I am horrified. So what if she claims to be a Christian ? You don't seem to give George Bush the same consideration.

People with mental illness should not be put in prison.

Besides the prosecution had no witnesses, therefore there was no case without the testimony of the victim.

Oh and for JGrubbs.... you are correct.... if the genders were reversed, you KNOW it might have been different, unless of course the vic chose not to participate in the trial. How many rape cases have been thrown out for the same reason???

I disagree. People who victimize children should be put away. She knew what she was doing was wrong, that's why she tried to hide it. To claim mental illness does not pull any of my heart strings, she is a danger to society.

Bipolar disorder most definitely does not compel one to molest children. One who is bipolar is, in the end, still responsible for their actions. An uncontrollable compulsion to molest children isn't a frature of this particular brain dysfunction.

I don't think it hurt her case that she was young, attractive, and female.

Disgusting, but welcome to planet Earth.

I was sickened as well. I can't remember if this was the same case or not, but there was a teacher who molested a student. It was said she was too "attractive" to go to prison. Yeah, I guess those baggy orange jumpsuits would clash w/her blonde hair.

I'm assuming she will never be allowed to teach or be around children ever again.

    This was on ABCnews.com

Exhibit Two: Dang Van Dinh. Earlier this month, the Orlando, Fla., chemistry teacher was sentenced to five years in prison for having sex with a 15-year-old female student.

    (next page)
Meanwhile, former teacher Dang van Dinh has begun serving his five-year sentence.

If reconstructionists were consistant and in power then the boy child would have reached his majority.

Anyone else notice that the women involved in these activities are usually very attractive?

I know a bipolar woman, and she hasn't molested anyone. If this is not typical of bipolar then it should not be a defense, or excuse.
Being, or making a claim of being a christian should not get anyone off when they have commited a crime.

An attorney on the local news stated that female defendants considered attracive have higher rates of acquittal and reduction of sentence than unattractive females in sexual crimes. Also of note was that females in general, when charged with a sexual crime, will do considerably less time than males. I can't think of a better example of inequity in the judicial system than the area of sexual crimes and gender of the defendant.
