I am sorry but I feel that much of the discussion is about what degree a person has in their hands. I am for education and I am for degrees but I know many Pastors with wonderful degrees and they couldn't preach their way out of a wet paper bag. We need to get some holy spirit filling.

A pastor needs both. They need the calling of God and the presence of the Holy Sprit; but they also need to be trained and competent in biblical languages, homiletics, pastoral counseling, biblical interpretation, theology, church history, and worship. That's what makes a real pastor a rare find.

I agree there need be no conflict between having education (degrees) and being called and Spirit-filled. Many lack the discipline and/or ability to be effective students on their own.

Of all the gifted and blessed pastors, evangelists, and missionaries I know, there are a handful that are self taught and effective communicators of the truth. Dr. Paul Levin who is now with the Lord was called by Dr. Bill Rice (Bill Rice Ranch) the most effective youth speaker in America. He was good!! Paul finished high school by correspondence and never went to college of seminary. Yet he was a great doctrinal preacher. However, I am surely thankful for the good bible college and seminary education that I have.

But Solomon is right, "Be admonished: of making of many books there is no end; and much study is a weariness of the flesh." :D :D

I say, amen (or is it ahmain) ;)
