The truckers write off their fuel costs, most commuters can't.
The independent truckers need to unionize.

Write offs don't mean much day to day, when the trucker can't raise freight fee's to cover the rising fuel cost.

A local trucking co. has filed for Chap.13 protection, for a fuel bill of $500K. They have about 100 trucks and contracts that they cannot get out of, short of shutting down. None of these contracts allow enough compensation to cover the rise, and their major one with Miller Beer is particularly difficult. That Miller contract is the key reason allowing them into the LA basin, because without that haul north, they wouldn't be able to haul down there. (we're in southern OR.)

My neighbor has about 10 trucks and he's on the verge of shutting down because of the fuel....He's lucky to make $200 profit on a round trip to LA. (1500 mi.) One bad tire dissolves that....
