When I was in Germany, we started an off post Baptist church. We wanted to open a checking at the (American ) bank on post. They wanted to see our Constitution. There were two sticky points. It stated that only a man could be a deacon or pastor. Also we would allow Germans nationals to become members of our church. According to DOD regulations an organization with local nationals could not be authorized use of base facilities. And in addition we "discriminated" against women - ie not allowed to be pastor. I explained that both standards were our Biblical beliefs - "Whosoever will may come" does not exclude Germans.

To tell you the truth, I don't remember if the Army allowed us to have a bank account or not. If they didn't, then I supposed we just used a German Bank. As pastor, I would not compromise on Biblical Standards.

I would not be a part of an organization that would cave in like that.
