"A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a
permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generou gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse over loose fiscal policy, (which is) always followed by a dictatorship..."

I'd like for the poster who said the scenario is complete baloney to state his reasons...if they have any.

Actually we do have a democracy once a year on election day.

But as far as the OP:

"From bondage to spiritual faith;
from spiritual faith to great courage;
from courage to liberty;
from liberty to abundance;
from abundance to selfishness;
from selfishness to apathy;
from apathy to dependence;
from dependency back again into bondage."

No, we don't. There are 4 Presidential elections which prove my point.

Last I heard we have a democratic Republic. If we could just remember to remind our government of that fact.

Better sharpen your reading skills.

The quote is real and snopes verifies that. It's been around for about 150 years. Only the authorship is in dispute,

But, for the purposes of this poll, that doesn't really matter. It's the idea set forth by the quote that the poll is about.

It's still baloney...besides we're not, never have been, a democracy.

We were a republic. Freedom with limited government control over our lives. Gradually, changes were made that turned this country into a democracy. For example, state legislatures used to select the Senators to represent them in Washington. Now two branches of the government are elected by direct vote of the population.

As we move to more and more regulation by govermental departments rather than direct vote by Congress we're leaving a "democracy" and becoming something different. I'll let you decide which of the ism's best fit.

How long is it before what the country originally represented comes :tonofbricks: isn't far away. What's next? One world government, one world religion, just as the Bible tells us will happen?

I challenge you to demonstrate where snopes has purposely mislead or given false information and continued to give false information when informed about it.

What comes next is a continuation of the last 10 years or WW3.

Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what's for dinner.

Splitting hairs.

Do you deny that the process described in the quote is actually taking place in America right now?
