And COPOUT. Are you being addressed in the command to "exact double vengeance," or are you not being addressed?

    Psalm 144
1 Blessed be the LORD my strength which teacheth my hands to war, and my fingers to fight:
2 My goodness, and my fortress; my high tower, and my deliverer; my shield, and he in whom I trust; who subdueth my people under me.
3 LORD, what is man, that thou takest knowledge of him! or the son of man, that thou makest account of him!
4 Man is like to vanity: his days are as a shadow that passeth away.
5 Bow thy heavens, O LORD, and come down: touch the mountains, and they shall smoke.
6 Cast forth lightning, and scatter them: shoot out thine arrows, and destroy them.
    7 Send thine hand from above; rid me, and deliver me out of great waters, from the hand of strange children;
8 Whose mouth speaketh vanity, and their right hand is a right hand of falsehood.
9 I will sing a new song unto thee, O God: upon a psaltery and an instrument of ten strings will I sing praises unto thee.
10 It is he that giveth salvation unto kings: who delivereth David his servant from the hurtful sword.
11 Rid me, and deliver me from the hand of strange children, whose mouth speaketh vanity, and their right hand is a right hand of falsehood:
12 That our sons may be as plants grown up in their youth; that our daughters may be as corner stones, polished after the similitude of a palace:
13 That our garners may be full, affording all manner of store: that our sheep may bring forth thousands and ten thousands in our streets:
14 That our oxen may be strong to labour; that there be no breaking in, nor going out; that there be no complaining in our streets.
15 Happy is that people, that is in such a case: yea, happy is that people, whose God is the LORD.

You can spin your wheels in the flesh, I'll walk and war in the Spirit.

God has a hand in raising up, or throwing down, any and every nation.

Ultimately all things happen as a result of God's hand. Pharaoh, Nebuchadnezer, Stalin, Hitler, Mao, Napoleon, Atilla the Hun, George Bush, etc. God even uses Satan for His glory. Satan is working his schemes to bring about the one world government and America is playing a major role in that developement, even from the beginning.

A wise man once said about scripture, "When the plain sense makes sense, make no other sense." "Resist not evil" means just that. I'm not going to spend my time here on earth trying to reform all the evil. The only way things will change is for people to be converted and turn from sin. Let the governments do the terrorizing of the evil doers. If they come for me because of my faith then I'll be martyred.

God blesses nations because of His people. America has been blesses but it is still one nation of all that satan offered to Jesus.

"when the plain sense makes sense, make no other sense"

    "CONTEXT, CONTEXT, CONTEXT"

    Jesus spoke Aramaic, not english.

You asked me what my interpretaion was of Mat 5:39. I sat down and wondered about it, researched it, and gave you my answer.

I asked you to give me your interpretation of "resist not evil" and your answer was basically "I'm not going to waste my time".

So, I gave you a clue to help you with your research. You'll have to dig for this one but it is there. Good luck.

You obviously glossed over my reply. The english is what I have and the plain sense makes sense.
By the way I don't believe in luck, I believe in Jesus.

And COPOUT. Are you being addressed in the command to "exact double vengeance," or are you not being addressed? </font>[/QUOTE]Rev 18 is an apocalyptic vision of the destruction of the world and is NOT a literal command to the reader. In no way can it be compared to the other passages we were discussing such as Rom 13. Since it is an angel in Rev 18 who destroys Babylon, God is clearly not telling you and me to do it. Also, it's not the endtimes yet.

That's all I'm saying on this as it is totally illogical and out of context to consider that Rev 18 is a command to us to destroy Babylon.

"Destroy Babylon" is not what it says. It says to "exact double vengeance." Do you, or shall you, do it?

    An imperialist Limey writes:-

There are two main issues behind the reasons for the American Revolution, one mainly secular and the other mainly Christian (rwt Rom 13:1ff). They are the same main issues behind the English Civil War

    1. Taxation w/o representation. The parallel here is with Charles I's attempt to tax w/o Parliament from 1629 to 1640. But this is at best a partial argument for the English Parliamentarian in the 1640s as for the American Patriot of the 1770s, the reason being that few people either side of the Pond had any voting rights.Down to 1832 in the UK only 4% of the MALE adult population could vote, still less sit in Parliament. So if the American Patriot was justified in rising up for that reason, so too were the English common people and all Englishwomen at that time; they didn't and had to wait until 1928 for that issue to finally be resolved. What I'm saying is that if the American Revolution was justified for that reason, then it should have been for all Americans, and if it really was a valid grievance, surely their English counterparts would have risen in solidarity with that cause?

    2. Where the authority lay (cf Rom 13). The English Civil War was essentially about that - the Royalists said authority lay solely with Charles, the Parliamentarians, like the American Patriots, both of whom were composed largely of pious Christians, argued that there were older liberties which had established representative institutions where the true authority lay. In 1640s England, they argued that such an institution was Parliament; ironically, the American colonists saw the same Parliament as the usurper and the colonial legislatures and assemblies as the rightful repose of lawful authority. So Rom 13 is applicable, depending on what you mean by 'authority'.

    Yours in Christ

    Matt

You are still on this, Alcott?

God is not telling us to do it. Read Rev 18 again. If you don't see it after Eltrow and I have shown you numerous times what it is saying, then I give up.

I didn't surrender (that would mean I agreed you were right); I gave up on you seeing what Rev. 18 is about.
