In keeping with the previous thread about near death experience I thought Died and gone to heaven might be an appropriate title

Just wanted to suggest anyone that is seriously thinking of mobile computing consider the Asus Eee PC or one of several others that were intro'ed at the recent electronics show.

It is 2 lbs, 6.5 X 9 or so and runs linux if you are smart enough to master that system or windows XP 2ND cdrom (Both on one cd and you need a usb external dvd drive - I pulled the dvd out of my old unit in garage and stuck it in a cheap external case).

I've been using mine for about a week and keep having to remind myself it is running XP and not wince. I have Word and E-sword - with 109 resources - running on it as well as a couple other Bible programs and it seems faster than my 3 gig desktop.

The keyboard is built for my wife (5' 2") not my 6' 3" frame, but I am able to touch type fairly easily. The right shift key is square so I miss it now and then but even old dogs learn new tricks

Most of my serious study seems be done on the road so this has been a tremendous tool for me.

Asus is bringing out one with an 8 or 9 inch screen (measured horizontally) soon and I'd guess other small units will be coming out soon with better stuff. One I saw today has a hard drive (The Asus uses solid state memory instead of a hard drive.)

Here's you another site/page to devour. The dude has added a few things to his Eee. If you are handy and patient, you might want to try a few of them.

That guy is way over enthused

Saw a utube video the other day that showed some guy in the far east that had added a touchscreen. Saw the parts on ebay this morning. I like my unit way too much to try any of those fixes with my shaky hands and not so grea eyes :tonofbricks:

If you read the whole thing, he said he plans on adding a few more things and even lists stuff he wants to add in. With the larger models coming out soon, adding more shouldn't be a problem.

I really liked the added starage as a separate drive so he could dual boot it. Didn't really see the need for a modem, but I guess he did. I would definitely like to see the other keyboard he was talking about.

Off the rack folks have set up dual boot one from built in drive and one from sdhc card. Some are trying to get them to boot off an external hard drive but not having a lot of luck as yet.
