Disgusting unsolicited e.mail

I wish I had the answer for you because I get very sick of it myself. I know that you aren't supposed to reply back to them or click on the "Remove Me" links because it only lets them know your email account exists. You can block the sender in Outlook Express, but I rarely get junk email from the same place twice. Maybe someone else here will be able to be more helpful.

The standard answer would be the forward a copy of it to [email protected]. However, there is no guarantee that email came from an AOL account; email addresses can easily be forged. I'd forward it to [email protected] anyway.

Also, you might set up your Outlook Express rules to filter out email based on words in the body of the message, not just the address.

My wife and I were getting horrible emails about porn, rape, etc. We changed our email domain, and they all went away. Unfortunately, once the scum get an email address, they seem to pass it around to their fellow scum.

 

Often they have programs that just come up with random usernames at various email providers, and enough of them do exist. I've gotten porn from AOL before and reported it, and they replied back saying that the address had been spoofed. Anyway, I just do as Iakobos said and make a filter so that emails containing certain words are automatically deleted.

 

I use Mailwasher. Anything I don't like the look of I just delete from server.

1) Definitely do the filter. When you're in Outlook Express, click on Tools, then on Message Rules. Click on the "New" button, and you'll get a window with a bunch of choices. Find the ones that say "When the Subject line contains words" and "When the message body contains words"; check these boxes. Down in the lower part of the window, you'll see these rules "added," but the words "contain specific words" highlighted, underlined, or in a different color; click on these words, and start inputting the words that you're looking to filter. Then go to the middle window and click on the box next to "Delete it" or even "Delete from Server."

The neat thing about that is, you can always go back and edit your rule to look for more words.

2) Definitely do not click on the "unsubscribe" link; they'll unsubscribe you, but they're in the business of making money, so they'll sell your e-mail address to other vendors.

3) Definitely report any and all unwanted spam, especially the pornographic stuff, to your internet service provider. Enough complaints, and they'll have to start looking at blocking certain e-mail addresses, or even forwarding complaints on to other internet services.

Gwyneth, I'm glad you started this topic. I went to clean up my mailbox of two of my e-mail accounts, and I was appalled to see 50 or more e-mails in the span of 4 days, in my PROFESSIONAL account!!!I'm downloading Mailwasher right now. YUCK!
