My youngest daughter gave my wife and I DNA kits for the holidays.
There were a couple of surprises.

Has anyone else had the testing?

I wanna do this! I could have it done with just one paycheck. But I spent my last "free" paycheck on a PS4 instead.

No. I know enough about my ancestry. English, Creek, Cherokee.

I considered it, but why pay someone for something they will make a killing off of when they sell the data to a corporation without my consent?

There are databases you can choose to add yourself to such as medical research; there are also time limits as to how long you want the sample stored.

The company we used (23andMe) has actually licensed a drug based on the genetic research that helps a small group of people with a certain genetic disease.

I come from Dutch/German (mom-second generation) and Swedish (dad) background. I’ve got a mostly German genetic heritage with 3% Jewish DNA.
The testing revealed regions and even towns where my DNA was prevalent. My dad was impressed, remembering some background he had forgotten (he’s 90 so that’s not surprising).

My wife is second generation Irish. We actually know the house her grandparents lived in. The DNA was smack on locating the region.

And it turns out about or so 6 generations back, we have a common ancestor - we’re 6 generation cousins.

I did it, and it basically confirmed what I already knew.

But it was gratifying to know that all the stories regarding our ancestry, which were passed down from generation to generation, were absolutely correct!

It was a pleasure to have everything confirmed by DNA testing. :)

I have not; wife has. She did it primarily because her Mother is a missing person and she wanted to get the info in a database. Nothing surprising in her origins, but she discovered a 1st cousin she knew nothing about!

You might be surprised. Most everyone is. I know a lot about my ancestry, but I don't know every thing.

I'm supposedly a mix of a bunch of European countries and English on my mom's side, and Hispanic and supposedly Native on my dad's side. (I do know that one of my grandparents, whom I never met, was Peurto Rican)
I want know for sure Though

I would love to do it. I would love to see what information "pops out". LOL!!!

    Did it.

Relatively speaking, it did more to document than to give new ancestry information.

There are health benefits associated that can assist in some ferreting out genetic stuff.

Was it the worth the dollars? Probably not in the long run. Didn’t change who I was, am, or will be.
