I know what you mean SheEagle 9/11. I sometimes wonder if I am a Baptist when I read some of the beliefs. [IMG] I have been a Baptist all my life and educated in a Baptist University and I am surprised at some of the beliefs of people on this BB.

But I read with interest and an open mind, but I know what I believe based on the scriptures.

    Thanks for clarifying.

I came from an IFB background, am now in a SBC and have always heard that baptism is the first act of obedience after salvation( at least in Baptist churches. However many other denoms preach that baptism is required for salvation.

[Do you believe that] you HAVE to be baptized to get to heaven?

    No.

I've heard that alot of Baptists believe this.

Then they have a misunderstanding of the purpose of baptism.

The thief on the cross did not have time to be baptized, but Jesus promised him that he would be with his Lord in Paradise later on. In other words, trusting in Christ for your salvation is more essential--baptism should be a result of you coming to Christ, not the reason or requirement for coming to Him.

This is a very controversial subject. There are Baptists who believe you have to be baptized to be saved. Yet, I get offended when people say that If God asked anyone to do anything for salvation then it would not be grace.

THE FACT THAT GOD DEALS WITH MAN IS GRACE ENOUGH.
God owes none of us anything. This is right along with what Paul said about the creation arguing with the creator. If God decided to tell man to stand on his head everyday to be saved then we should do it without arguing about it.
