No, like heroin. See what I mean about the apparent defect?

I think the "why" is obvious . . . to seem cool or adult, to experience the buzz or to escape reality.

He's not the only one Aaron. My husband truly enjoys the taste of beer and wine. The plum wine we tried the other night is something I really enjoyed, but that would be because it tasted a lot like apple juice. so I'm better off just buying apple juice cause it's cheaper, and I can drink more than one glass if I want. He drank his glass because he wasn't about to be wasteful, but it was WAY to sweet for his taste buds. He prefers a good malbec when it comes to wine.

And the need to rail against something with which you disagree....guess that could also be the need to be cool or adult, or even experience the buzz and escape reality.

That's a filthy habit. Why are you introducing tobbacco into the conversation?

Or a non-Pizza Hut margherita and basil pizza with a decent Chianti. Or a beef tenderloin with an '09 Rhone. Or...

A Baptist pastor's waist line is directly proportional to their criticism of those who drink alcohol, as is the speed of a gossip's mouth.

Crabtownboy's example is a good one. It is societal.

Arbo, as much as he generally likes French cooking and is willing to try new dishes, does not do snails.

There's more than one homosexual, too. Doesn't mean it's not an acquired taste.

Alcohol consumption is hardly on par with homosexual behaviour. Trying to win an argument at all cost?

I think you're right. Aaron has never won an argument so he'll do anything to get that first victory.

You obviously have not been around many people who drink. Most of my friends are social drinkers and have been for several decades. However, I can only point to two in my circle who have been adversly affected by their drinking. So I can tell you from much personal experience that use of alcohol can lead to addiction but it almost never does.

You reasoned that Webdog's experience was not valid because of this hypothetical injury which affects his taste buds. I offered up evidence against this - in that my husband also enjoys the taste of beer. And instead of admitting that perhaps there are those who truly enjoy the taste of beer (whether it be wrong or right to consume) you feel the need to compare alcohol consumption with practicing homosexuality.... classy.

Overlooking what one likes or prefers and focusing on the issue is important. The Bible commands us to "be sober, be vigilant, because your adversary the devil as a roaring lion walketh about seeking whom he may desire." Obviously, this verse is not used to directly refer to the sobriety of refraining from alcohol; nonetheless, it makes a clear point in addressing the importance of the battle we wage against our enemy. Alcohol inhibits the senses even in small amounts, as we all know. If this issue were only about preference and what we like, then of course it is fine. However, there is spiritual warfare raging around us with Satan waiting for any measure of weakness to attack the followers of Christ. Why would we willing consume something known to inhibit our senses and make us vulnerable with that in mind?
