Have you noticed a difference? Do you know the best brands? Are there other, better suppliments for anxiety/depression?

    Thanks

My doctor recommended fish oil capsules for my heart. It says on the bottle that it's for the heart and circulation, but it says nothing about anxiety or depression. I have no idea if it does any good. I do know it does NOTHING whatsoever for my circulation, and I'm considering stopping them since I can't afford them anyway.

I tried fish oil capsules for about a week, not for depression, but with vitamins. YUCK! I literally burped and tasted fish all day long after I took it. It made my reflux act up, too. I wouldn't recommend it.

 I'm allergic to fish and seafood, so no, definitely not!!

Besides, I'm vegetarian (no meat, fish, or fowl), too.

I take a walk with me dogs.

    Some vegetarians eat fish.

    Cheers,

Then they are not vegetarians. The definition is no meat, fish, or fowl. A lot of people re-define the term to suit them. I've met people who don't eat red meat and think they are vegetarians.

There's a new word for people who don't eat meat or fowl but eat fish - a pescatarian.

People just can't make words mean what they want to. If they eat fish, they are not vegetarians.

St. Johns Wart works well for some people. Getting the proper amount of rest, exercise and eating a well balanced diet does more for depression that most people realize. High amounts of sugar and carbs add to the problem.

I take "Nature Made" fish oil gel caps every day. It is an excellent source of vitamins A & D, both can be stored in the body. In the winter months, your body needs more than in the summer.

Don't listen to people who say vitamins don't help. Of course the A.M.A. has an interest in sick people, not healthy ones. If a $14 bottle of vitamins prevents a $700 doctor visit, what do you think their advice will be ?

I was hoping for more optomistic responses. I need a miracle pill (natural, though).

B Complex vitamins have been associated with stress relief.

I gave you the best response you will ever get. Plenty of excersize, a well balanced diet, and a balanced amount of rest. That will do more that anything else to assist you with depression. Any general practitioner will tell you this. Check with your doctor about your appropriate diet. Most often depression is brought on with excessive stress. Avoid those situations as often as you can. It needs to be treated as if it was any other handicap or disability.

Yes you did and while all that is good, I take fish oil and B complex daily. I can and do feel the difference. The carbs and sugars are some of the biggest factors that bring on mood swings that can be associated with depression.

Now back to my large bowl of Chocolate marshmallow ice cream. :tonofbricks:

Uhhh, do as I say not as I do. :tongue3:

Yes, I've noticed that fish taste whenever I burp. Also, I used to live on laxatives, but when I started taking Vitamin E, that problem went away. I also take a multi-vitamin every day. I have no idea how much good it does, but I figure it doesn't do any harm--I hope.

Vitamin caution: The body does not absorb a lot of the vitamin tablet, and too much of most vitamins can be harmful.

Sellers of vitamins are getting rich, too.

I take one 1200 mg omega3/omega6 in the morning along with garlic pill, aspirin, multi-mens-vitamin, and a small fist full of perscribed pills. Then I take another at night with a couple of other prescribed pills.

Don't know how much the fish oil does but I could tell a difference when I ran out and went about 2 weeks before I got some more.

The Doc says to keep doing what I am doing because my nuclear test came out so well it was hard to tell I had a quad bypass 16 months earlier.

    Thank you.

I can give you a lot of excuses as to why that is not practical, but I know you are right. I have 5 homeschooled children. I'm non-trusting and won't leave them with anyone so that I can get out. I can't take them with me often because I have a child with a physical handicap---which is quite difficult in winter. I hate the cold! My husband is busy day and night with ministry and house (the latter which should be ending soon and then I'll be able to get out more).

You could sum it all up by calling it the winter-shut-in-blahs. The stresses of missionary life will probably never disipate, so I have to learn ways to cope.

It may help when I can get back in my own house, be able to get out a bit, and spend time with my animals (I love my animals!)

My diet is not too bad. I'm pretty conscious of what I eat.

    Thanks for the prayers, y'all!

I had problems with burping up the fishy taste afterwards as well. I started buying enteric coated fish oil caps (available at Wal Mart) and all that went away. Now I can take fish oil caps with no problems of fishy taste or smell, or burping up that yucky fish oil taste.

There was a study published a few weeks ago that said fish oil caps were slightly better than prescription cholesterol medication for lowering cholesterol.
