Well, basically what it is is taking the Old Testament account of the Passover lamb and spreading the blood over the door and applying it to the believer.

While the OT account is setting the stage for the coming Messiah, the Word of Faith cult takes this to mean that there is something magical about the literal, physical blood of Jesus and that we can apply it to ourselves for protection against demons, illness, etc.

It's also come to be another strongarm tactic to try to get God to do your bidding.

There's a little more to it than that but, suffice to say, it all goes downhill from there.

It is a lie and a cruel one, at that.

It's been a regular part of Meyer's teaching for a long time now, but what's so funny ("ironic" funny, not "ha-ha" funny) is that all the time she's been teaching this, she's undergone several surgeries for breast cancer. I wonder what this says about her faith.

In the same way, Kenneth Hagin taught this for years, yet all throughout his life, he was constantly being hospitalized for one illness or another. Evidently not much faith for the guy who's known as the "father of the faith movement".

Another is Fred Price. He's gone so far as to attack Joni Erickson Tada by saying something to the effect of, "why would God want to live in a house where the plumbing is broken and the door doesn't open" but never wants to address his wife's battle with cancer. In fact, I could be wrong about this, but I think she ended up dying from it.

Oh, that's an easy one, Curtis.

On the one hand, you have someone who tells you that God wants you to be fat and happy all the time and that He'll even do tricks for your amusement and doesn't really ask for anything in return.

On the other, you have Someone who tells you "Take up your cross and follow me" and that in order to gain life, you've got to die to self and then, to top it all off, guarantees you that you'll face suffering and persecution.

    Who would you rather follow?

That statement about Joni Erickson Tada is about the most ignorant thing I have ever heard. How awful.

    Nice post, Mike.

People wonder why I don't watch ANY christian T.V. Now I can tell them.

You know, having been involved in the Word of Faith cult as a new Christian, I still try to keep up with Hinn, Copeland, Hickey, Meyer, et al, partly because I have to deal with a lot of people still in the WoF cult and partly out of morbid curiousity.

One of the most startling things that they have in common is that they very rarely preach the Gospel as God 's heroic attempt to reconcile us to Himself and Christ's atonement as the only acceptable substitute, instead it's always the means to an end rather than the end in itself.

You're always encouraged to embrace the cross as a way to "appropriate the promises of God" (i.e. health and wealth).

I post on Crosswalk.com, too, and even though though the folks who run the site try really hard to promote sound doctrine, you'd be stunned at how many posters show up there who believe this stuff.

    LOL!

That explains why I suddenly find myself switching over to FamilyNet for no apparent reason and stare at the screen even when my fingers want to move on. ;)

TBN is the most ridiculous channel on cable. It is cartoon like well, maybe not...I just got through watching Justice League on the Cartoon channel and don't want to insult cartoons [IMG] (can an adult mentioned he watched that? ) Anyway besides the bad theology, prosperity ripoffs, born again Jesus heresy of TBN...has anyone wondered why the TBN studios looks like a cheap ripoff of Graceland?

I can only assume that it's because:

    1. It reinforces the prosperity gospel, or

    2. It's their version of financial accountability. How they spend your money is right there for everyone to see, so why would you need to know more?
