Rewards are not based upon your justification, and I don't believe Johnv implied that. All believers will still be judged at Bema seat for the works done after our justification.

Sin separates us from a Holy God.

Behold, the LORD'S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear: But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear. For your hands are defiled with blood, and your fingers with iniquity; your lips have spoken lies, your tongue hath muttered perverseness. (Isaiah 59:1-3)

How can it be that God hates sinners, and yet He also loves them? God is a very complicated Person. From our frail human perspective His love and His holiness can appear to be contradictory, yet this is only because of the limitations of our human experience and conceptions. God does hate sinners because of their rebellion and stubbornness and He does not hesitate to consign sinners to eternal torment unless they repent and believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. At the same time God loves sinners so deeply that He gave His only begotten Son for their sake to save them from their sin. Things Hard To Be Understood: Ps. 5:5--David Cloud

Ps 11:5 - “The LORD trieth the righteous: but the wicked and him that loveth violence his soul hateth.”

Joh 3:16 - “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

My last post with David Cloud's commentary on Psalm 5:5 is the best I've found. It is really hard for our finite minds to comprehend the love of God--God is a God of love but He also judges sin.
