I am wondering about this and thought it might be worthy of discussion.

Curious what your thoughts are - is it true?

Does God have a dream for your life?

If so, are you living out God's dream for your life so far?

God doesn't dream about what He wants for us--He plans and then works out His plan regardless of opposition. There's nothing anyone can do to thwart God's plan. The devil tries, but he has already lost the war. We are on the winning side with God Who NEVER fails and cannot be stopped.

God's plan for us is to glorify Him. Other than that, I don't know. God certainly knows what's happening and what will happen and I do think He orchestrates things too. But does He have a "dream"? Nah - I don't think a "dream" is a good term at all because a dream is something we wish for. God doesn't have to wish for anything. Does He have desires for us to fulfill? I'm sure He does - and He knows when we're going to fail and when we're going to succeed.

"dreaming" the word "dreaming" ... conjures up wimpy images in my mind about God...
With the word "dream" I see God sitting on a cloud with a thought bubble above his head with me in it....
So, I would have to say no...

    BUT
I feel he has a plan for my life...
    A will for my life....

Tim, you are wrong, dead wrong! You're not in His dream bubble, I am.

Seriously though, I believe that God has a plan for my life, and if I submit myself to His leadership, He will lead me to follow His plan. Now, honestly, I often wish He would lay it all out for me right now, but I am willing to wait on His timing.

I'm going to agree,God has plans, not dreams, theres a verse where God says I know the plans I have for you, obviously He does have a plan for our lives.

“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” __ Eph. 2:10
    (emphasis mine)

This is a verse that has impacted my life. That there are good works laid out before me that God had prepared is humbling. This verse says that we should walk in them, it is the path God has prepared for us. It is both humbling and exciting at the same time. How exciting that mapped out before us are good works God has planned for us! Sadly we don't always do this. I sometimes wonder if we really have any idea how different our lives might have been or could be if we always "walk in them"?

I agree with everyone else- God does not dream He plans. He has ordained everything that will be.

The idea that God has a "dream" for our life is terribly man centered.

A dictionary definition allows for, "an ideal, aspiration, or ambition..". The Bible lists times when God used dreams as a means of communication (Gen 41: 1ff; Mat 1:20ff,,and others)

Obviously God does not dream; He plans in the positive.

To dream, to have aspirations, is not to be faulted. Perhaps if more of us dreamed, had aspirations, we would be further ahead. Sure beats nightmares!

    Cheers,

    Jim

Did you get this from that book by the guy named Bruce something or other? I think his last name starts with a W. Didn't he write a book on God's dream for us? Is it Bruce Wilkinson?

God does not dream. So the whole concept does not make sense.

"Dreaming" is definitely a mortal thing. People dream about a better life, winning the lottery, having their dream car, having a family, being famous, things we want but often cannot obtain. Most of my dreams went down in flames and were never realized. God sees, knows, and plans the future with us in mind.

Then I am going to blow it here....

Life is like a giant video game... (except we don't have multiple lives  )

And those good works that God has prepared ahead of time are the tokens in the game that builds up our treasure chest....

See... told you I would blow the record for good posts.... :tonofbricks:

Ever heard of The Prayer of Jabez? He wrote it.

    He has several dream books:
The Dream Giver is one. From Amazon:
He also wrote The Dream Giver for Couples and The Dream Planner, and I think one or two more (one for teens).

Marcia, that sounds kind of freaky to me. I remember when his book Prayer of Jabez came out and if you prayed this prayer you would have all that you dreamed of. I didn't like the sound of it then and I don't like it now.

I'm with you, but I recall how popular this book was! Almost everyone was quoting it and there were placemats, key chains, mugs, etc. with the Prayer of Jabez on it. I read it, finally, and found stuff in it I did not think was good. For one thing, I recall that he made it sound like when Jesus rebuked the storm that it was not a miracle.

It got to the point where I practically couldn't say anything against it because almost every Christian I knew loved it.

He also said that if you pray this prayer for 30 days, your life would change.

I remember when that was popular, but I never read it. Never did care to, figured it was a fad. It was.

Lady Eagle, I'm curious as to what prompted the question on this thread?
