In another thread, a poster wrote the following:

On other occasions, I have heard preachers (and even lay people) say, "God spoke to me."

    Or, "God told me..."

Has God ever talked to you? This is not a question whether God communicates his will to you in some manner? I'm asking if any of you have literally heard a voice which you believed to be that of God?

It has never happened to me, but I would never say it doesn't happen.

I was watching TBN when I saw a preacher stop in the middle of his sermon and say, "Wait just a second." He cupped his hand behind his ear. "Uh huh. Uh huh. Got it. Thank you, Lord." To the audience he said, "God just told me...."

Tell me what you think, or relate any experience you've had.

Not in a voice like a man, but certainly he has spoken with that low still voice, that gives us guidance, wisdom, understanding, about our love ones through dreams, yes, you can call me the little dreamer also. Boy, do I believe in dreams from God.

    I'm curious about this, too.

A few months ago, I was talking to a lady at church and I mentioned that my wife and I were "thinking about moving" somewhere. She said, "you mean you're praying about moving, right?"

I thought, of course we were praying, but a) I was using "thinking about" in a loose sense of the term, and b) how would I know if it were the right thing unless I used my mind to try to sift through all of the pros and cons of moving? It's not like God will answer in prayer and say, "No, you should stay where you are!"

    But maybe I'm wrong.

I've never heard an audiable voice, but I have heard His voice.

God can talk to you in that small voice and oh boy does he sometimes. In the last few weeks I have noticed his still small voice even more than before with the situation with my divorce and now everything I have been thru. I love when God leads me to a verse and its like wow Lord I never looked at that verse that way before. My favorite thing God showed me in the last several months is the verse Matthew 6:33--Seek Ye First and the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these "things" shall be added unto you. Until a few months ago I didnt understand what that verse said and then one day it was like bam! Okay God I get it, Seek You First and then the rest of the "stuff" in my life (kids, marriage, everything else) will fall into place. That has so helped me in my daily outlook in my life and has so helped me get through my divorce and now the issues I am facing in my life because God is truly in control and as long as I seek Him First the rest of the junk will fall into place.

Never audibly. Generally through his word or insight given on a situation. I've seen those pastors to and its all hype. God told them means to them that God has given the impression or feeling in their heart I don't believe he spoke to them audibly.

    Here's a true story:

Several years ago, I was driving to a neighboring county to deliver a baccalaureate address to a high school graduating class. I pulled up behind a car waiting to make a left turn, and noticed in my rear-view mirror that a car was approaching rather fast. Sure enough, it rear-ended me. I got out of my car, the other driver did the same, and after assuring each other that we were not hurt, we began to look for damage. I expected to see a bashed-in trunk, but when we looked, we found not even a scratch. We checked his grill and found no evidence of the collision. Apparently the rubber strips in our bumpers had matched up perfectly and cushioned the shock.

That evening, I phoned the woman I was dating (now my wife), Janice, and when I related the incident she began crying. I told her, "don't cry, everything's okay." She said, "that's not what I'm cryhing about. What time did this happen?" About 6:45 p.m. I said.

She said, "I was vacuuming the carpet at that time when I thought I heard a voice say, pray for Tom. I wasn't sure what I had heard and kept vacuuming.
Again the voice, this time louder and more insistent, Pray for Tom. I shut off the vacuum cleaner, fell to my knees by the couch and said 'Lord, I don't know what's going on, but please protect Tom'."

That's the story. I later asked her if she might have heard that voice in her mind, and she said "no, it was audible."

It had never happened before and has not happened since. In a figurative sense, she has heard that "still, small voice" that some of you have described. So have I.

Jesus said "My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand." John 10:27-28

We know we have heard Him if we believe in Him and follow Him. Those who do not are not His sheep. Verse 26, "But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you."

We should seek the Lord's voice in His Scriptures and not rely soley on subjective feelings, but always judge our thoughts and emotions based on God's infallible Word.

Anytime we feel we've heard from God we need to turn to scripture to verify that what we have heard is from God, if it is it will line up with scripture, if it does not it is not from God.

    Does God talk to me?

    Yes.

    Is it ever audible?

Rarely. I have had the occasional word. A "yes" or a "no".

Yes! The Lord does speak to me. Not audibly, but in a quiet whisper like to my mind. This has happened many times, but perhaps the most memorable one took place 19 years ago. I was in my swing on my back porch praying about a neighbor lady, who would cuss at her children when she got mad. As I was praying a voice came to me and said, why don't you go to church Sunday and see Connie saved? So strong was this voice that I came inside the house and told my wife about it.
Next Sunday as I walked into the church and shook hands with the pastor I said, I have come to see Connie saved today, to which he replied, that is going to be difficult she is not here!
In Sunday school I got up and told the entire class, what had happened. And I told them I could not believe that I was wrong about what I heard.
As church started who came bounding down the aisle, you guessed it, Connie and she quietly stepped into the outside of a pew. While the music was playing Pastor stepped forward and announced, are going to have a call altar. We did have an altar call but no one came forward. Again, the pastor said, were going to have another altar call. And as we waited the Lord said to me, go say something, go speak to Connie, now of course I had no idea what I would say to her, but when I stood beside her I said," Connie do you feel the Lord tugging on your heart today?" Yes I do, she said, and bolted forward to the altar and received the Lord Jesus Christ as her savior!!! Later her entire family got saved also. Praise the Lord for what He did for Connie.

Absolutely. I've heard His voice many times although never audibly. One of the greatest for me was after my 2nd miscarriage and 7 years of trying to get pregnant with fertility treatments and all. My hubby and I were both praying separately and I was just crying out to God asking Him to please let me know if it was His plan for us to have another child. I would be OK if He said "no" but I'd kind of like to know what to plan for the future. I heard Him tell me that we WOULD have another child but it would be to HIS glory and not the doctors. I spoke to DH and he heard the same thing. We stopped all treatments and just let it go. I DID watch my fertility signs but one month, DH was stuck in a snowstorm when I was ovulating, so we figured it wouldn't happen that month. Well, the weekend I was due to resume my cycle, it never came and the pregnancy test came back positive. :) We had a beautiful son and then 2 years later, God blessed us with our little surprise (I had NO idea that I was pregnant until I was 10 weeks along). I knew that we'd have another child so I could rest in the knowledge that God had control and knew the child He had planned for us. We just were to wait on that. How comforting that was.

I've heard His voice many times before that and since then but that one stands out in my mind as my almost 8 year old son just went running past me with his little sister not far behind. LOL

How beautiful are the words of this thread. Great testimonies, and makes us remember how we love the Lord.

My Granddad raised up in the bed one night and said his son, had just wrecked a car and killed someone. It was my dad, who wrecked the car and it did kill the person with him. God works in mysterious ways.

It confirms there is a dimension beyond our 5 senses. One can't relate to God until you can comprehend this other dimension. Jesus said, "God is Spirit". With all our computing power and medical know how we still don't truly know the meaning of these words.

Not only does God speak to me, I often talk to Him as well...

If it was on TBN, I Question it?

Does God talk to me...the answer is yes! I've heard Him many times. As Brother Bob says, it is in an audible, low voice. However, it is not something that is human like. It is truly supernatural, and it is according to His will in directing me in my walk with Him! All can hear Him...sometimes it is through a song; a prayer voiced by another; through something we've seen, read, or did; almost always through His Word; in the words of another; through His creation and nature's sounds and beauty.

Yes....God speaks. And all of us can hear Him when the time is right, and the need is there!

    Shalom,

    Pastor Paul :type:

I am the one whom God Tom Butler quoted in the opening post, who said...

I'm glad to hear so many wonderful testimonies of the same.

Isnt God good! Isnt it good to know that He desires to communicate with us.

A while back I was at work and as I walked down a particular hallway on the ground floor. All of a sudden I heard a voice...not an audible voice, but a voice none the less...that simply said to go up to the 4th floor.

I had no idea what I was going to do up on the 4th florr, but up the elevator I went. When I got off I didnt know what to do, so I just turned to the left and started walking. Just as I passed a room a co-worker just "happened" to glance over and see me.

She said...Oh, Mike! I was talking to Bob here about some questions he has about the bible. I didnt have the answer and I told him you might be able to help, but I didnt know where you were!

    :D

Well, GOD know where I needed to be and He told me exactly where to go, and if I had passed that room 2 seconds sooner, or 2 seconds later, I would not have passed by at the precise time she "happened" to glance toward the door.

    Isnt God amazing!??

And I loved reading all the testimonies of this sort on this thread. God is so good!
