Take the verse I use as my signature. Since that is from the OT, are we to assume that its not current for today?

I believe that God does honor right living with His blessing. Not because we are "doing" right, but because He loves us.

I want to give good things to my children and to my students. But I want them to do well because its right, not so they can get something.

My main question along these lines is this:

Like Moses, and David, and othes, are we missing out on some of God's blessings? Does he with hold blessings from us like He did them? And how can we truly know?

Also, before God was about to act in the OT, He often told the people to consecrate themselves. They clean up, He acts. In the NT, people washed. I know it wasnt a requirement for Jesus to act, but he often did do things like that. (Blind man, he told him to go wash...and then he would see.)

I think God does want us to clean ourselves up, and He is more likely to act. Why would He want to act in an Isaiah 64 kind of way in the lives of people who dont really care?

    1. I think we need to start looking for the principles within each prose or poetry of Scripture, whether OT or not.

    2. Not only that, but whatever God does He does it for His name's sake.

    3. Though OT, I believe it is still true today: "No good thing does He withhold from those who walk uprightly" (Ps 84:11).

    4. But there are certain blessings with miss because of sin: "Restore to my the joy of my salvation" (Ps 51:12). Salvation was still there, but the joy was missing.

I dont think anyone is questioning the salvation part of it. we all know salavation is not by works.

Lets say this: a believer has given in to the temptation to look at something dirty on the internet. And the believer gives in again, then again, and is really struggling with this temptation but having a hard time stopping. Do you think God will still bring about His b lessings on this believer, or will he wait to bless him til he gets that temptation uncer control again?

(Amy, at least you are "a" mind lol)

I would hope God would continue to bless even if we are not worthy.

    1. IMO, God at times withhold His blessings, but discipline us to get back on track.

    2. And definitely, the struggling believer would not be savoring God as he should and thefore would not receive the blessing that comes from such exercise.

None of us is worthy of anything God gives us. But do you think He will bless a believer who is not actively living to honor Him the same as He would one who is?

Is there a contradiction here? If not, how do you reconcile the two?

That's where you leave me flat footed. The same as???

Will he bless one not actively living in honor? Yes. I think we see it almost daily.

    1. Not at all! Even God working in our lives as a disciplinary Father is a blessing (Heb 12:4-11). Father knows best!

    2. I think we might need to define what we mean by blessing, because even persecution and sickness are blessings, when you think about it.

Maybe my wording isnt right. One who is actively trying to live a life that honors Him would not be looking at dirty things online, I dont think. They would be trying daily to deny self and seek the Lord.

I know in my time as a believer, there have been times that I chose to do wrong, knowing it was wrong, not denying self. I did not "feel" (and I know we get in trouble here, lol) that I was living a life that honored the Lord, and I certainly didnt feel that He was blessing me as He has in other times when I was closer to Him, if that makes sense. Now "blessing" in the larger sense, yes He was. He provided for me, etc, but I mean spiritual blessings of closeness, guidance, and visible work in my life. Maybe I am just rambling and gracious!!--- A frog is hopping across my floor!!! Ew! It must be a sign lol.

I don't see the contradiction, for even discipline can be viewed as a blessing.. When I have gotten off track, I thank God that He kept on working to get me back on track..

Discipline let's us know we are His children...
So even when we are off track, God works to teach us...

This leads me to this.. our real blessings are eternal.
And God is more concerned with our Character than our comfort.
So sometimes what we see as something that will hurt us, in the long run, you know, eternity.. it is a blessing.

(Would yall believe, I caught him in a cup and went to throw him out, and there was ANOTHER one at the door! Inside my house lol. And 6 slugs (now salted) too! lol. The end is near, folks...)

I dont really think of blessigns as material, while I know they can be. When I say "God blessing", I mean that closenesst hat only comes from a daily intimate walk with Him. In those times I was not as close to Him as I should have been, I did not sense His leadership nor Him using me/working around me as in other times.
