The repentance "from" "man" is from God alone. :) Otherwise it is works based.

"IF YOU will, then God will" is Finneyism and is error.

The question of the OP is "Does repentance come from God or People?" And the non-Calvinist answer is that repentance must be "granted/allowed" by God, but that does not mean it is irresistibly applied.

How you suspect that is not related to the OP is beyond me. But, I suspect you will continue to derail a good discussion anyway. :tear:

That is not what Finney believed.

However, what the Bible teaches is this:
God commands "all men everywhere to repent."
IOW, God commands men to repent; He does not repent on their behalf.

Yes, God does all of that, but not until there is repentance from man.[/QUOTE]

    Amy,
How about.....by the time man repents...God has already worked in that man or woman? Why is that hard for you to say?

She doesn't want someone else's words put in her mouth.

That is what Finney preached. Did I say God repented on man's behalf? Allow me to answer: No.

God commands to repent and He also grants (pay attention) and leads to repentance. Get all of the facts in there, not just easy believism proof-texts.

Repentance comes from Neither God or People...

...It comes straight from the Word (His promise) of God. It is a promise to those who recognize that they have sinned; that they do not have the answer or ability to save themselves; that God provided the one and ONLY way to salvation; that they must repent of their sin, turn and go in another direction that is in the opposite direction of the one they were headed when they discovered they were sinners headed to hell; and that they receive, by no act of their own, through FAITH, His gift of salvation!

Thus completing the circle (act) of repentance, and gaining eternal life!

You are shallow on Oberlin Theology, which is what Finney believed and taught.
God commands all men everywhere to repent.
It is the goodness of God that leads men to repentance
God doesn't give it to them. They must repent.

You remain in error. God does it all, none of man. Carry on.

Acts 2:38 And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

How does a calvinist reconcile the belief that the Holy Spirit initiates repentance...but here you have Peter saying, in effect, "repent, and then you will receive the Holy Spirit?

(I realize calvinists often speak of Regeneration, repentance, faith, and conversion more in logical order than time order, and that they would say these happen instantaneously...but this verse still seems to have a causation line of reasoning with it)

There is a point in time when we pass from death to life , or are translated from darkness to light.....it is instantaneous...a person can be convicted and drawn for awhile ...but there when the Spirit quickens them...they repent and believe.

    God commands man to repent.
    God commands man to believe.
God commands man to be baptized.
God commands man to be added to the church.
    God commands man to pray.
God commands man to search the Scriptures.

I suppose we are all just zombies, robots, whom God commands. Maybe he winds us up like the energizer bunny, puts his "program" (uh-oh: Calvin's program) in us, and like the Calvinistic robots we are we carry on his commands like little zombies, even though he has commanded us.

    Granted

Jesus was granted to be a life to Himself, but He didn't He lived for the Father.

If we are granted repentance does that mean we have to?

Husband and a wife are to be one flesh. They have different roles, but they are to be one flesh with the same goal. The problem with the fall the wife desires her husband as in wants to have his role. Do you think they want the responsibility if things go wrong doing things her way? Don't you think that a person wants to be an elect without the responsibility? If they fall they don't want the blame.

I do believe a wife is our helper, not to be walked all over. We as a husband need to think what is best for the family, not what is best for me.
