10 reasons why instrumental music is wrong in worship

    1) There is no command in the New Testament for Christians to use instruments of music in the worship of the church.

    2) There is no example in the New Testament of a church, apostle, teacher, or any Christian ever using an instrument in worship.

    3) It is not of faith, therefore it is sin (Romans 14:23).

    4) It is going beyond that which is written (1 Corinthians 4:6).

    5) It violates the command to "sing" (Ephesians 5:19; Colossians 3:16).

    6) Singing is commanded; the accompaniment of a musical instrument is an "addition" to this command, and therefore it is wrong (Rev. 22:18).

    7) The use of the instrument in worship to God is a failure to "abide in the doctrine of Christ" (2 John 9).

    8) Those who use the instrument in worship "reject" the authority of Christ (Matthew 28:19; Luke 6:46).

    9) It cannot be done "in the name" (or by the authority) of Jesus (1 Corinthians 4:6; Colossians 3:17).

    10) From the above evidences, the use of the instrument in worship is obviously not from Heaven, so it must be from men (Matthew 21:25).

From the above Scriptures, we can now "clearly" answer this question, "Can Christians use musical instruments in worship and still be pleasing to God?"

None of that actually supports your contention.

    1. The fact that there is no NT command is irrelevant, since the OT gives clear commands. God is the same and we can worship him the same way.

    2. The lack of example is an argument from silence. The fact that we are not told that they did it does not mean that they did not do it.

    3. It is of faith to use instruments.

    4. This verse is out of context.

    5. It only violates the command to sing if you don't sing. That has nothing to do with instruments.

    6. Using an instrument is not an addition to any command to sing.

    7. There is no biblical connection between instruments and the doctrine of Christ.

    8. There is no authority of Christ involved since he did not speak to this issue except in the OT when he said to do it.

    9. It can be done in the name of Jesus.

    10. It can be from heaven.

So you are 0 for 10. You have not given one reason against instrumental use. You have instead tried to bind the conscience of others. The Bible does not forbid the use of instruments. It in fact commands it. So the NT church can use instruments in good conscience.

    GWIT,

Based on some of your criteria, I respectfully ask that you get rid of your lights, power, and running water in your sanctuary. Thanks.

    6) Singing is commanded; talking about singing on the internet is an "addition" to this command, and therefore it is wrong (Rev. 22:18). Typing is also an "addition".

we don't use running water, power, and lights to worship God, But we do Sing to worship God. God tells us in the new testament to Sing and that is what we should do, nothing more nothing less. Our aim in worship is to please God not ourselves.

I don't know what you are trying to say, but we are talking about worshiping God, and we don't get on the internet to worship God. God tells us how to worship Him in the New Testament and that is how we should worship Him. We must worship Him in spirit and in truth. and Gods word is truth. Singing is an act of worship, getting on the internet isn't.

I just ask anyone to site one verse of scripture which tells us that we can use instrumental music in worship to the Almighty God.

we are no longer under the old testament we learn this in several places in the new testament, (Gal. 3:24-24)(Col. 2:14), the old testament was our schoolmaster to bring us to christ and after christ came we are no longer under the schoolmaster

and if we get our justification for things in the new testament from the old testament we are fallen from grace. (Gal. 5:4)

in the old testament in (Jer. 31:31-33) it says that God is going to make a new covanent with the house of israel which will not be like the old one.

henceforth we use the new testament as our guide in worship to God today

Say, what are you guys (and gals) doing worshipping God in a so-called "church building" anyway?? And in the English language of all things!!!!

Oh boy, you're gonna be in for it come Judgment Day!

And that little pitch pipe that some of you use....that's a reed instrument, isn't it?

Personally, I'm glad for the use of instruments because drown out my lousy vocalizations!! (You know, kinda like the guy in prison---behind a few bars searching for the key!:tongue3: :tongue3: )

the new testament teaches us to assemble and it can be anywhere in a house in a building. we just choose a central location where all the members can get to. its not a church building, its where the church meets.

where does the bible tell us we have to worship him in greek or hebrew.

all a pitch pipe does is get the pitch for the song, the worship of God doesn't start until the song starts.

God doesn't care how your voice sounds as long as you worship him in spirit and in truth. it sound like to me that you are trying to make the worship sound good to you and not to God.

Remember the situation in which Jesus said this? What did He say when asked about the particular way to worship? His reply that one day all will worship the Father in Spirit and Truth reflects the fact that the particulars are not significant. There are no doubt some churches which are more doctrinally correct in worship - but that does not mean that God does not accept all worship.

I just clicked on your profile and you said that denominations is a sin...
Why are you a member of a "baptist" board if you think we baptists are sinners?

Sorry that you have such a limited view of what constitutes "worship."

We also worship God during the period of our giving and our prayer time too.

Basically I could care less if you use instruments or not.

Last time I checked, this world is pretty much on a packed Interstate headed for hell, and I don't really think it matters much whether their radios are playing instrumental music or not.

As long as Satan can get us so hung up on such trivial matters as this, he wins!!

Actually, what Gal and Col (and the rest of the NT) says is that we are no longer under the Law. Don't confuse "the Law" with the OT. They are not the same. The Law is found in the OT, but the OT is much bigger than the Law.

The God who received worship by instruments in the OT certainly still does so today. All the instruments do is help people worship God. They are not a substitute for worship. This thread has no biblical basis for its point whatsoever.

Is it just something known in your church that the worship doesn't start until the pitch pipe has been blown?

"I can't wait for the pitch pipe to be blown so I can start to worship."

How many times do you use the pipe in one worship service?

    "Let's just ditch the OT!"

    This sounds like Marcionite exegesis!

A loved one undergoes an MRI. She is apprehensive about being totally enclosed. As is her custom, she prays for God's presence. During the one-hour procedure she hears an orchestra and chorus playing and singing the most beautiful hymns ever written. At home, her husband calls the MRI office to comment on "the beautiful music you played for my wife." The response of the technicians is that "We don't play music during an MRI." The husband responds, "Wow!" The tech replies, in a tender voice, "Yes." The love of God reaches us in so many, many ways, so many dimensions. Isn't He wonderful, wonderful, isn't He?

GWIT, your pitch pipe explanation was a hoot. Thanks for the laugh. And where was the NT allowance for a pitch pipe: The book of 1 Hesitations?

It's kinda funny...the worship at my church starts long before anyone gets to the building.

    Imagine that.
