"You do not believe what scripture says?"

"No. You do not believe what it says."

And so it goes, ever and anon. These assertions, or some version of them, appear in many debate threads. They accomplish nothing. It is like two children arguing over their favorite superheroes. Without stating it plainly we are calling the other party ignorant. Arguments are not won, nor are minds changed this way. Both parties are convinced their view is faithful to scripture. Telling them it is not without making a convincing argument is displaying ignorance of your own position.

I know this post will not stop this behavior, but I believe it is worth commenting on.

Well, we have at least progressed from the time of Luther as far as doctrinal disagreements are handled.

'You should not write a book before you have heard an old sow fart; and then you should open your jaws with awe, saying, "Thank you, lovely nightingale, that is just the text for me!"'
From Against Hanswurst, pg. 250 of Luther's Works, Vol. 41

    i agree.

The on going seeming inablity to hear the other person's view. Then the false accustions.

If anything one ought try to understand what is actually being disagreed on. Yet actually believing the same Scripture(s). Something added or not actually understood in the same way.

Once the click of falseology posters gets down with rewriting the text, or shopping for a favorite mistranslation, they claim they believe in scripture.

    However:
    1) Saved through faith actually means saved then given faith.
    2) Chosen through faith in the truth actually means chosen without regard to faith.
    3) No one seek after God actually means no one ever seeks after God.
    4) A natural man cannot understand the things of the Spirit actually means the natural man cannot understand any of the things of the Spirit.

If you add a little here, delete a little their, and change word meanings, anyone can claim they believe their adulteration.
