Donna Shalala, Bill Clinton's Health and Human Services Secretary, Runs for Congress in Florida

"Republican nominee in the district...Maria Elvira Salazar, a Cuban American ex-journalist for Telemundo....The district still has a large Cuban population — Shalala has a cousin whose family is Cuban do the voice-over for a Spanish-language ad — but it has seen an influx of non-Cuban Hispanics"

"'It’s Shalala time....Bill Clinton said I might be the most qualified person to ever run for Congress outside John Quincy Adams,' Shalala said."

She needs to tell everyone that she is a John F. Kennedy Democrat--that should do it. Cubans are mostly Republicans since the Bay of Pigs so I predict that she will lose big time. She is boring, too.

It is a very close race, much closer than what the democrats expected. Salazar is running a much better campaign than anyone thought. Also, you have to remember that Ileana only won by 10% in 2016.

The 27th Congressional District is very diverse. It is an amalgamation of different cities and areas in central/south Miami Dade -- ranging from Cutler Bay in south, Miami to the north, Kendall in the west, and Miami Beach to the east. Each of these areas are different, some very much so.

It includes some very expensive areas (e.g. Coral Gables and Key Biscayne) and some that are not. A quick zillow search shows single family homes ranging in costs from $140,000 to $55,000,000. That is quite the spread.

Yes, there are Cubans who live in this area, but that is a bit over-simplification to say the least. This is the breakdown of the area by race based on the 2010 census - 87% White; 8% black; 2% Asian; 5% Other. Hispanics comprise 73% of the area.

My guess is that Shalala will squeak out a win.
