Primary elections are today. It's so sad that a small minority of voters decide who will run in the Nov elections.

It might help if you tells us district/region you're referring to. Today is not an election day in CA.

Election dates always vary from state to state and county to county. Here are the 2006 election dates for Seminole County Florida:

Primary election on September 5, 2006 (registration deadline August 7, 2006)

General election on November 7, 2006
    (registration deadline October 10, 2006)

I didn't vote because I want to sign the petition to allow Kinky Friedman on the ballot, can't do that if you voted in the primary.

    Who's Pat Paulson?

It was my first experience of having to make a mad dash for the polling location. I've encountered other people trying to push whatever/whoever before, but usually I am able to avoid them. This time my wife and I got out of our car and like a swarm of vultures local candidates (or their supports) flocked to us trying to give us their spiel and a flyer (I got more flyers in the mail for this election than I think I ever have)

After listening to the first 2 or 3 people I said "let's go honey" and darted across the street. My wife wasn't quite as fortunate as I.
Next time I am going to try and do the early voting I think. My wife thought it was hilarious.

Kinky Friedman, eh? Don't know much about him, but I'd for some reason I like "One Tough Grandma". I'd like to see him give Perry what for I think. Guess I can't sign her petition now either.

The laws are written in such a way as make it very difficult for independents of any kind from getting on the ballot. To my thinking this flies in the face of "for the people, by the people". The last people in the world I want determining who gets on the ballot is already seated politians, talk about conflict of interest!
