Thank you, Brother RL. In a couple of weeks, Evangelist Phil Schuler will be holding meetings at my home church. As the son of "Fighting" Bob Sculer of Los Angeles, his memory should put us back to the mid '20s or so.

I believe the J.W.'s started with door to door sales of their materials rather than the evengelism they now practice.
This according to an old book I once had that was written by a former J.W. called
"30 Years a Watchtower Slave" or something like that.
I don't recall the date that dtd started in the book.

Well, with Brother Phil Schuler's help I've pushed the date certain of the practice back to January, 1946. It was in that month he and the late Glen Shunk went cold calling in small mill town in Tennessee. According to Brother Schuler, Bob Jones, Sr. and the BJ faculty taught DtD as a method of church planting. My pastor recalls Grant Rice going DtD as he planted churchs starting in the late 30s. (Brother Rice started out as a machinist and through a series of Providential circumstances went from the lathe to the pulpit. He is a regular C.H. Spurgeon)

Grant Rice is still at it. I mailed him a church directory yesterday from our state fellowship. He is now living here in Wisconsin, where he started dozens of churches through DtD ministry.

We have a number of churches which use "cold turkey" and prospect calling on a DtD basis for building their churches. It's a great way to make contact with the people on your community. [IMG]

I knew Brother Rice is still in the harvest field. I see that you're located in Watertown these days. Could you stop by West Point on the Rock River (aka Maranatha BBC) and see if any body up on the Hill can answer the question at hand?
