James Dungy, the 18-year-old son of Indianapolis Colts coach Tony Dungy, was found dead at 1:30 a.m. ET Thursday in his apartment in Lutz, Fla., a suburb of Tampa, Debbie Carter, a spokesperson for the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, confirmed Thursday.

A death investigation is under way, and the spokesperson said that the county medical examiner's office or the hospital at which James Dungy was pronounced dead would have a ruling on the cause of death.

James Dungy officially was pronounced dead this morning at University Community Hospital in Tampa.

Tony Dungy has left the Colts and is in Tampa. Indianapolis plays at Seattle this Saturday.

No amount of salary could help deal with this. My heart goes out to Dungy & family, especially during this time that should be spent cherishing family. I'm sure his game this weekend is the last thing on his mind.

How heartbreaking this must be for Tony's family! :( Tony is such a good man, alot of us here in FL really like him and hate that he's still not coaching the Bucs.
    Praying for the family.

Going thru the writings on this, I keep seeing that Tony claims to be a Christian. My prayer is that his son was saved, as well.

It is really hitting home here in Tampa. Alot of my co-workers here in Tampa are Colts fans because they liked Dungy so much.

I am a long time Steeler fan .I remember him playing and coaching here .

It seemed what ever team Dungy coached they became my No 2.team because of him .I feel really bad for Tony and his family .

I heard on ESPN that he planned on getting out of the NFL soon and going into the Ministry full time .

I have a lot of respect for Tony D. I don't know much about his background. What postition did Tony play for the Steelers and how many years did he coach under Bill Cowyer?

    So very true.

I've been quite impressed with Mr. Dungee since his son's death. (I might have been impressed before, but I didn't pay enough attention.)
