Does anyone else enjoy listening to far-away radio stations on shortwave radios? I especially enjoy HCJB from Ecuador and of course the BBC from Britain.

Used to love it as a kid. VOA was even entertaining. I haven't done it in years but would LOVE to get back into it. Would love to see some resources, catalogs, weblinks, etc.

I used to, until I moved to a downstairs apartment in the city. Now I have to stand next to a window just to get cell phone reception.

My dad got me interested when I was kid. He was in the Signal Corps and he can still copy code. I once worked up to where I could send pretty fast, but I was never good at copying.

My all time record was receiving Hawaii while in Florida. I hate to think of the path signal took!

I agree, BBC is great. I like the talk shows and game shows.

I was disaapointedd, no saddened is a better word, to hear that HCJB is ending its English Service. I often tune into thier programs.... :( oh well. Tom I am not ignoring your question, just thinking. There are sooooo many choices for a radio, but they are so hard to get around here. I ordered mine (my third) from a company in Canada. May I suggest you see if your library has or can get a copy of the book, "Passport to World Band Radio". It is a great resource. It reviews different radio and has prices and places to order, plus all kinds of usefull schedules, addresses and articles. [IMG]

No. I had one of those old multi-use ones that my grandmother gave me when I was a kid, but it wasn't very powerful. Still, it got me hooked. I got stations from all over and got VOAs very clear. I'm in the market for one, an inexpensive one!

Sorry Tom, long weekend.... I have ordered mine from Canada, but the first one I had was a decent receiver I got from Radio Shack. They are good and cheap. If your local radio shack doesn't have one, they can get one.

Ditto on the Radio Shack radio. I have an older Radio Shack receiver that appears to be a Sangean OEM version. Easy to use, works as well as whatever antenna I have will allow. It gets AM & FM bands as well.

I just bought a new Sangean ATS 404 off of EBay. Hopefully a good choice. My research seems to indicate that it is.

Good call on the Sangean. They are usually very good. Did you get a good price?

A Grundig Mini World 100 Shortwave Radio , a little portable. I have one that I paid $200 for that the current bidding is at $50. The Grundig Porsche. 11 minutes and I'll see if I got it. These prices are reasonable.

Good for you friend! Yeah, we will have to exchange station reports.

Actually, I saw that radio and was interested, but I wanted a digital tuner.

Thanks for getting my interest back up in this hobby! [IMG]
