East Syrian (Nestorian)

Ed Edwards:

Sorry to respond to your post over here, but Catholics have been asked not to respond on the “other” thread.

In the year 1001 there were numerous pilgrimages to the
Holy Land from Europe, Africa, and India to
celbrate the start of the second Millinnium.
That year the largest Christian Church was the
East Syrian (Nestorian).
This church, the Catholic Apostolic Church of the East,
had over 250 dioceses across Asia and
12 million adhernets. More saints were commanded by this
chruch than the Bishop of Rome (Pope, the Roman
Catholic CHurch or the
Bishop of Conistanople/Patriarch of Antioch (Orthodox
Catholic Apostolic Church, AKA: Easter Orthodox). By 1051 the
Patriarch of Antioch and the Bishop of Rome excommunicated
the bishops, priests, and members each of the group.

During the next 200 years the Catholic Apostolic Church
of the East was crushed between the Mongols of the
East and the Muslim from the Southwest.
Needless to say, it is NOT in the best interests of the Papists to have that information be of general knowledge.
There is no conspiracy by “Papists” to keep information about the existence of the East Syrian (Nestorian) from becoming general knowledge. Here is the history of the East Syrian (Nestorians) from New Advent Catholic Encyclopedia. It starts about three quarter down the article.

will use "Pagan" to denote the pagans.
Thank you.

Papist is a derogatory name. We would appreciate it if you would, no strings attached, just call us Catholics.

</font>
So now we're bargaining? :rolleyes:

So as to be clear, I'm not offended by "Papist." I just think it's silly and juvenile, like walking around with pencils up your nose. It makes me snicker. If that's how you want the Catholics here to view your posts, then don't change a thing.

I wouldn't be surprised if Jack someday gives online doctorate degrees in anti-Catholicism to those who read so many enchicklicals. :D
</font>
Does it count if you laugh when you read them? If so, I may already qualify! Cough up that sheepskin, Jack!

I haven't read enough of them to qualify yet. I can't get past the scary pictures of the Catholics with big hook noses.

</font>
I see in my dictionary
that "papist" is ofensive. Sorry, my bad.
I will not use the term "catholic" by itself,
for it is applicable to many denominations,
which denominations we are discussing.
Can i use "follower of the Bishop of Rome"?

You are free to do anything you want. I am a Catholic with a capital C to signify a proper noun and the name of a specific church. Any reference book makes this distinction.

Papist implies that we worship the Pope instead of Jesus Christ. Since Catholics don't worship the Pope or anyone but God Himself, this is offensive and inaccurate. If you want to refer to Catholics as followers of the Bishop of Rome be my guest. It is a mouthful though, and you may get some, surprising to you, confessions of faith in Jesus Christ that you don’t really want to hear.

God Bless
