Found this list and it saddens me. I love ribs and ham and sausage and bacon and shellfish, crabs, clams, shrimp. I know, though, these creatures are really garbage disposals in the food chain.

Are we Baptists missing the mark enjoying our ribs and Christmas ham? Are we filling our bodies with toxicity? Or should we just stick to Fried Chicken? What say you?

I thought that Peter was shown that there were no unclean foods, so that he could eat with the Gentiles and give the gospel (it was also to show him that Gentiles were not unclean and the gospel was for them as well).

And I say this as a vegetarian (but that's another story -- I became vegetarian as an animal rights activist before I was saved but still don't eat meat).

Most of the "bible-based" diets have no support from scripture, and they disagree with each other!

Many of the promoters of so-called bible diets also sell supplements or similar items you are supposed to have. Big surprise, huh? It's all about money making (in those cases).

From a healthwise view, it could be some of these creatures are not good to eat, but it would be a health issue, not a Biblical one that mandates you not eat them.

Remember the Jewish council. Acts 15:28 "For it seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us to lay on you no greater burden than these necessary things:
Act 15:29 that you abstain from meats offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication; from which, if you keep yourselves, you shall do well. Be prospered."

I think the OP was asking about the "bad" foods listed on the link.

What do you think the above refers to? Can you give examples of how we would apply this (other than the foods offered to idols which seems pretty clear)?

I don't understand your reply. People who believe in free will don't believe in legalistically following Old Testament dietary laws that Jesus said were no longer valid.

I saw a position on the Internet that said that was why Jesus cast the demons into the swine, because they were unclean anyway? Thoughts?

then tell this to the op, as this is what is being implied. I think you have addressed the wrong person.
You think they don't, we've seen them come and go here on the BB.

I know and am persuaded by the Lord Jesus that nothing is unclean in itself. Still, to someone who considers a thing to be unclean, to that one it is unclean. Romans 14:14 (HCSB)

If you think it is unclean, cool. I don't. Paul didn't. Does make anyone any better than anyone else. We can still celebrate Christ! :)

I'm studying through a commentary of the bk of Leviticus---titled "Holiness to the Lord" by Allen Ross

    Good commentary

Chapter 21 deals with Holiness and Daily Food

    Funny story---laying aside the commentary

Some time ago I attended a funeral of a lady---not a member of my church but of a buddy preacher of mine---but I knew the lady and her family---so I went to the funeral

This good preacher buddy of mine was preaching----I seated myself in the back righthand side of the chuch and was listening

His text was from the chapter where Mary was seated at Jesus' feet listening to Him teach while Martha was in the kitchen cooking

The preacher then began relating the Bible story to the deceased lady---and got to the point and here's what he said

"Can you imagine Martha----she's in there cookin' breakfast for Jesus---those bisquits bakeing in the oven---she has eggs scrambled and she's fryin' up that bacon, ham, and sausage for Jesus---------------------then-----a big long pause---------and this preacher buddy's eyes met my eyes---his from behind the pulpit and mine in the back right hand side of the chuchhouse-----and then he realized his mistake

FOLKS----YA'LL FORGIVE ME JUST THIS ONCE----UMMMMM----THESE WERE JEWS AND JESUS---AS KING OF THE JEWS WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN EATIN' BACON, HAM, AND SAUSAGE----AND MARTHA BEING A JEW HERSELF---WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN FRYIN' THAT STUFF UP FOR HER KING!!!!

I know several good friends who attempt to eat according to the Bible diet for Jews--------and they scratch their heads when I ask them---when they're gonna get on the John the Baptist diet----Grasshoppers and honey!!!!!

    Your buddy,
    Bro. David

PS------I'll comment on the Jewish dietary law ASAP

VERY early in my Christian walk I had some of the same questions then I read this

    Matthew 15:11
Not what goes into the mouth defiles a man; but what comes out of the mouth, this defiles a man.”

    hope it helps

Whether we are under the law or under grace, there are still unclean foods. If you were to go by the food of the law you would be eating healthier.

Having a diet that does not involve meat is also opening the doors for other things, more spiritual war fare.

no, that was just a random wheels off comment concerning diets. I also added a wheels off comment on another thread. It's something I do for a hobby.

Actually, from an observation stand point, most spiritualists, new agers, and mystics and the like are vegetarians. Is there no correlation?

Jews were not allowed to eat pork. These people did eat pork, however.

But the text does not tell us that this is why Jesus cast the demons into the pigs - that's a good guess but we can't know for sure.
