This time its in the El Tejon School District in Lebec, California.

The lawsuit concerns a class in progress at the district’s high school.

Looks like this one is going to be an easy victory for the evolution side.

It would appear from the syllabus the teacher who proposed this course intends to do a reprise of the debate forums here on evolution! Both sides could simply dig out arguments from our archives and just cut and paste and call it a debate. Or from our "secret" science setion

Here's a link to the Baptist Board secret science section (warning - every debate trick in the book finds its way there sooner or later)

From the Bakersfield Californian this Saturday, Jan 14, in an article headlined "Talks Push On in Class Lawsuit"

The El Tejon Unified School District board decided unanimously Friday to continue settlement negotiations with the group that's suing it over a philosophy class on "intelligent design" -- a concept that questions the validity of evolution and attributes life to an unnamed intelligence.

The group, Americans United for Separation of Church and State, which is representing a group of parents and residents, has until 2 p.m. today to accept or reject the district's settlement offer. Hmmm - that time has passed - I wonder what happened?

I don't see why this class is a problem since it is not being taught as science but as a philosophy class. It sounds as if some folks don't even want the words such as "God", "Bible", etc. even mentioned in government school classes - not even for discussion purposes.

Ken, you haven't looked at this particular case. "God" is never mentioned by the IDists which is one way they distinguish themselves from the straight creationists.

The reason this has failed as a philosophy class is that it doesn't address philosophical issues. The videos and the guest speakers (the ones both alive and willing to speak) are basically all (except one video which can be used to support catastrophism) anti-evolution. The list of speakers included a dead man and one who specifically refused to lend credibility to what he perceived would be pure anti-science propaganda. The course was to be taught by the gymn teacher who has no grounding in philosophy at all.

This was ill-conceived and hastily slapped together.

So to say anything that is anti-evolution is not to be allowed in government schools?

No, the stated purpose of the course is to discuss various views, not why ID is right and evolution is wrong.
