I have no problem with entertainment on a secular level. I don't really think it is appropriate in Church.

King James---I have already told you in a PM---there is a "Report Post" button at the bottom of your screen---If you feel you are being provoked---then toggle the button and the forum moderators will be notified----do not---I repeat---do not "defend" yourself----again---this is a private board owned by private people---and this simply is one of their rules----that if you feel you are provoked---you report the provocation and the matter will be settled asap by administration. The post in question will be reviewed and appropriate action will be taken---regardless of whether anyone believes that the accused is "popular" on the board or not---it makes no difference.

    Thanks!

You're gonna have to show me where it says that Jesus went to a party!!! I read in John where He attended a wedding----the Hebrews treated weddings as serious as EMT's treat heart attacks!!!

Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever thengs are noble, whatever theings are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy---meditate on these things. Phillipians 4:8

So where within that verse does your entertainment lie?

Spending time with my family doing things like playing minature golf, enjoying beautiful music, reading enjoyable books. Fellowshipping with friends or family via board games. All of those things are forms of entertainment.

lol - you was probably leaving a nice slobber pool on the desk top. [IMG]

From what I understand, little is really known of how weddings were performed back in the day, but these "feasts" could go on all week and they were great social occasions. And the miracle took place after some time had passed b/c the banquet master was surprised they had saved the best til a later time. I cant see them sitting around solemnly drinking wine for a week, w/out having fun. I dont know, maybe I am wrong (but I AM a woman, so... ;) )

    Tater -

You aren't nuts. They taught it in church.

In fact, I remember Dr. Smith once did a whole sermon on "Jesus was not a depressing man." He said that He always hated it when people tried to present the image of Christ as "dour" and "depressed" or "depressing." Pointed out that people were always seeking Him out, that He was always being invited home to lunch or dinner, that children flocked to Him, and everything you just said about the wedding. King James,

I think Baseball is a wonderful opportunity for men of God to witness to young men.

    lol oh my Victory!

The church I grew up in was large enough to start their own little league and Pop Warner football league.
I do not think entertainment such as sports is a sin. I think if you place more importance on them than other things would be.

Yeah, I don't really understand people making Jesus out to be so depressing and all. I for one believe He had a good time on earth and has a great sense of humor.
Where is the joy in people?! We can have a good time with harmless entertainment, nothing wrong with that. I think some Christian's are really missing out by condemning things that are not in scripture, just man-made rules that have no point at all, but to bring misery.

I haven't given my personal view on sports. I have only challenged you to think upon what the Bible says about entertainment, worldliness, etc.

I would encourage you to read missionary biographies of those that have preceded us and laid down their lives for Christ.
C.T. Studd, for example, was a professional cricket player. He gave his life to Christ, gave up the sport of cricket, gave up his fortune (in the millions) and went to both China and then to Africa as a missionary. He suffered many hardships. What kind of sports, entertainment of anykind did C.T. Studd have in the jungles of Africa? He had his Bible, and the joy of winning others to Christ. His entertainment was serving others, giving his life for Christ.

Read of Adoniram Judson, America's first foreign missionary, and missionary to Burma, one of the most difficult fields at that time. William Carey's son had tried to infiltrate that field previously but had been martyred. Judson endured great hardship suffering and languishing in the prisons of Burma. It was at least 7 years before he saw his first convert. His wife died. He saw some of his own children die. The suffering that he went through is almost too great to read about and think about. And yet he was able to translate the Bible into the Burmese language. He was the first person to "crack" the Burmese language. He wrote a Burmese grammar book and a Burmese/English dictionary. This man had no time for entertainment. He spent his life suffering for Christ, translating the Bible for the people he ministered to, and winning them to Christ. What entertainment?

William Carey is known as the father of modern missions. He was a cobbler that gave his life to Christ, and asked God to use it. He went to India and translated the Bible into 26 different languages. Time for entertainment? I think not!! He was too concerned with getting the Bible into the hands of the people of India, and winning them to the Lord. He established a Bible College, that he might train pastors to reach their own people that his work might endure.

What do all of these have in common. If you could ask them, they would say that entertainment would be a frivilous activity that would simply be a waste of time. God has more important things for his "ambassadors" to do. He has given us "the ministry of recnciliation." How successful are you in carrying out that ministry?
