At Wed. nights Bible Study we talked about some everyday sayings that either directly or indirectly came from the Bible. Some of these I knew the Biblical referance and some I did not. I imagine that alot of non-Christians don't realize they are quoting scripture when they say these things.

note: The study was conducted by Bro. Corey Gilliam of Rockford United General Baptist Chruch, and the research was done by Corey. I am simply passing along some information that I found interesting.

"With great power comes great responsibility."
Oops that was Uncle Ben. ;)

But Uncle Ben probably stole it from Jesus.

NASB Luke 12:48b "From everyone who has been given much, much will be required; and to whom they entrusted much, of him they will ask all the more."

It was kinda neat....there were like 3 or 4 Biblical references in the first movie. I was quite shocked.

I love that quote and tease my son with it often. How about this one?

"Fear leads to hate, hate leads to anger, anger leads to.....suffering"___ Quote from the great philosopher...Yoda

James 1:15: "Then when lust has conceived, it gives girth to sin; and when sin is accomplished, it brings forth death. (v.19) But let everyone be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger; for the anger of man does not achieve the righteousness of God."

Misquoted saying: Money is the root of all evil.

    Actual verse: I Timothy 6:10

For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

Misquoted saying: Pride goes before a fall.

    Actual verse: Proverbs 16:18

Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.
