Israel has been guilty of some discrimination, not only to Palestinians whom they have mistreated (the ongoing violence is no excuse for some things), but even Messianic Jews (and of course, Jewish Christians) have been barred as citizens (while Jews who ar atheists, Kabbalists (occultism),astrologers, etc are allowed). I think we are casting people who have been victimized as totally innocent, and this is never true (and I can acknowledge the same for blacks/Africans with all they have been victimized by).
The point was, anyone can take some act they disagree with and hold it up as the cause of our "judgement", no matter how bogus it may be.

If I am not mistaken the conference was also infected and highly influenced by those who call for reparations for injustices that occurred generations ago.

Setting aside debates as to whether people are really due such reparations, or how effective it would be, it seems our attitude is questionable. We're kind of like "that's the past, it's not our problem", but we do enjoy the legacy of conquest, slavery, etc., nd we should also think how we'd feel if it happened to us. Even while the country turned liberal in the last few decades, we demanded "rights", complained about taxes, etc., even though we were still prosperous.

Not sure what legacy you speak of. My grandfather was a carpenter and my father was a machinist. They gave me love and a wonderful family but as to inheritance of wealth, there ain't none. And I really don't care, what they gave me was far better, and I am doing just fine otherwise.

Much of the material "blessings" of the nation as a whole, which people attribute to our supposed moral righteousness in the past. That's one reason I am against this "God is cursing us now because of our [sexual] sins" rhetoric. It ignores all the injustice that was done in the past.

    Eric,

So you think God is going to look the other way over 26 million babies being aborted; that American media (TV, Movies, Music, Pornography) is center stage in polluting the world?

Why do you think God destroyed Sodom and Gamorrah, the Caananites, Jebusites, Edomites, etc?

No, but people must think God looked the other way with all the other sins before that. If anyhing, all the sins today will just add to that.
As I do not believe America was some covenant nation (as Israel was), God does not mete out special judgments for our sins. We sin like everyone else, and we suffer war like everyone else. We were big enough to keep it out of our borders for awhile, but not invincible to be able to do it for ever.
Sodom and Gomorrah are held up as examples of God's judgment of sin, and earthly examples in the Old Testament like this foreshadow the final judgement (just like the blessings Job received at the end of his trials foreshadow heavenly rewards, as many sufferers for Christ never got any reward in this life. Likewise, many wicked sinners never receive any judgment in this life.)

Everytime I hear the lovely song, "God Bless America,' the most uncomfortable thought occurs to me:

    Why?
