Exodus 32:1-20 What is going on here?

    Interesting question, Crabtownboy!

    Maybe it was a test for Moses, and not so much that God truly intended to turn his back on Israel. Much the same as the test for Abraham, when God commanded him to sacrifice Isaac. I don't know, but it's just a thought. :)

    Moses is a type of Christ, the mediator between man and God. That is the lesson we are to learn from Moses pleading with God to spare Israel from His wrath.
    OT - Moses was mediator
    NT - Christ is mediator

    Everything in the OT is a shadow of the NT.

    OT - Christ concealed

    NT - Christ revealed

    Gwen and AmyG, thank you so much for rational answers. No wonder I like women more than men :laugh:.

    Yes, I had thought it might be a test for Moses. That is a possibility.

    Also, it may well have a way of teaching others how they should treat others. Like Amy suggested Moses is, in this story at least, a Christ-like figure saving his people even though they have turned against what he taught and wanted.
