I went to a garage sale a few weeks ago. There were some of the usual good Christian books for sale for 25 cents each, and I assembled a stack.

There were also quite a number of rare old Christian books. (Former librarian, so I know.) Sign said to make offer. I began talking to the lady and she figured they would never get 25 cents apiece for the older books. I told her what a treasure she had and offered to return to help her sell them online.

She took my name and number and said if they did not go at garage sale prices she would call me. (No call back yet.)

She then told me to take as many as I wanted for a quarter a piece. I got what treasures I could safely care for at home.

Currently I am very carefully reading a turn of the last century printing of a D.L. Moody sermon series.

The blessing is not in acquiring cheaply what might be resold for a great deal more.

The blessing is in reading these sermons of Moody's. TALK ABOUT REVIVAL IN MY SOUL, AND YEP, THESE CAPS ARE FOR SHOUTING.

    THANK YOU, LORD!

I collect books. Some of the best treasures I have found in thrift stores. When ever I see a new one I stop in and look.

Same here. I have walked away from garage sales and thrift stores almost embarassed about what a deal I had gotten.

Of course, from a garage sale, I always tell them that they are worth much more than they were asking. Often, they tell me 'thanks, we just want to get rid of this stuff, go ahead.' One time, the lady said, 'Oh, we better double check with mother on this...'

Thrift stores, garage sales, estate sales, and never forget, library sales. All these places are excellent for finding discounted books. And I never tell someone their books are worth more than I am paying for them. lol

It is naught, it is naught, saith the buyer: but when he is gone his way, then he boasteth.'

That's in the Bible somewhere. Now you know where the Jews get their business acumen...
