Ok, Father's Day is just over 2 weeks away. I am very grateful for the Dad that raised me.

If you feel compelled to, please give us your thoughts of your dad.

I hate Father's Day. It's a constant reminder that I do not have a good relationship with my dad and I'd rather not think about that or pretend to honor someone I can't respect.

Instead, I chose to focus on what a loving father my husband is, and remember that God is the father who never fails us.

Indeed, as I was posting I did think of the heart ache some might have during this day. abcgrad, you are very blessed indeed and I hope you to know that I did not intend to bring up those emotions.:tear: It is great to know that we can take great comfort in the hands of the almighty God, our Father that never leaves or forsakes us.:praying:

It's ok, Mel. I think good fathers SHOULD be honored, and good mothers, too.

My father passed away about 5 years ago at the ripe old age of 101.

I can't say that we had the greatest relationship, but I do have some good memories.

I love my dad in spite of the inadequacies in our relationship, and am grateful for the God Given men who were placed in my life to make up for the inadequacies.

He was 61 when he passed away back in '91

Its been 18 years since I've seen my daddy----and I can hardly wait to see him again!!

Here's what I think about when I think about my father

    Jesus

    my momma

    Church

    people

    coffee---I believe thats what killed 'im-----he OD'd on coffee!!!

    Old Spice

    The church audio sound system

Family vacations to Jasper, Arkansas---and the Ozarks---haulin' that pop up trailer

    youth trips

    South Central Bell telephone company

fishin' trips to the Atchafalya River swamps----Bayou Pigeon, Bayou Sorrell

    Squirrel and Rabbit huntin'

    his old '68 Chevrolet pickup

    his old worn out shoes

    his Jack Russell Terrior---named Nipsey

pens and pencils in his front shirt pocket

jinglin' his coins in his pants pocket while giving a Building and Grounds committee report at the monthly church business meetings

his frustration over clogged up toilets at church

on and on my mind rewinds every day

I have a lot of love & respect for my dad. He's helped get through some hard times before. If it wasn't for him, I wouldn't be the person I am today.

I don't think anyone here wants to read about my sorry-excuse-for-a-dad.
