You're so right, Katie. And even when they say they won't sell, sometimes they do. I saw on the news a while back where Yahoo was involved in a lawsuit for that very thing - which is probably why I received so much junk in my yahoo mailbox thereafter. However, I have not received one piece of junk in my new yahoo mailbox. I suppose they learned an expensive lesson that round.

With my present system, which is both archaic
and disgusting, in order to get rid of them, I must
open them! No e-mail may be erased without
opening it! So, since I am expecting a new
computer (yes, at my age, I am expecting! 8o),
I just leave all the prono there to sit and rot. When
I drop this Internet provider, all my addresses
will go into the Internet Abyss anyway.

With my new computer and provider, I have
decided to create one address for such things
as giving out to anyone who would be likely to
sell the address. It will remain very dispensible.
This way, when the porno starts, I will just zap
it and start a new address.

Just so you will know, I am very careful now
about giving out my address. My recent influx
of porno was started when I told a religious
organization to stop their daily e-mails, which I
    had initially requested. NOT good!

On the spyware thing, lots of people download that stuff onto their computer without even knowing it. It's usually bundled with useful software. Anyone have comet cursors, or anything that promises to speed up your internet connection? Then you most likely have spyware.

I read all agreements and terms of service now before I download anything, simply because most free software is bundled with this junk. It makes them $$.

I agree with Katie, you can get these porn sites saved in your favorites without ANYONE from your family doing anything having to do with porn. So please don't barbeque a member of your family because you think it's them. :D I had this filth show up in my favorites folder after I had downloaded yahoo IM and AIM. I got rid of both, and haven't had the problem since. I don't know which one it may have been, or if either one was the actual culprit, but I don't want to take a chance of downloading them again and finding out.

I installed Spybot Search and Destroy to get rid of the spyware. So far, it's done a great job. It's a free download. Just do a search for it, and I'm sure you'll find a site to get it from. Some people have said they have had a problem getting it to run on their computer, but I haven't. It did a great job of getting that junk off of my computer.

A quick way to tell that these sites have bombed you is to put all of your favorites in folders. These sites just add them to your favorites list, so if everything you've bookmarked is in folders, you'll spot it immediately.

It's happened to us. Dh was a programmer in the AF and he says it's entirely possible and very common.

Thanks for the computer answers ladies . I knew that no one from my home was doing this ,that it had to be a piggy back or what ever but since I know little on this subject thought I would ask if it was something that just happens from time to time. Please forgive for posting on the wrong forum. Mk

Wow. It occurs to me that a young lady on
another board was telling that she was the
church secretary, and if I have my story straight,
when she would come to work, porn sites would
be listed in the favorites. She was very concerned
because she knew she was not doing it, and the
only other person with access to the computer
    was the pastor.

No one knew what we have been told here, so
it was really bad. We were all concerned, and
she was hurting. One woman told her, though
that there could be a good explanation and to
think cautiously. I hope all that worked out in
    the right way.
