Alexandra Hamilton in Federalist 71 explained that members of Congress were guardians of public interest, and therefore had a great responsibility to withstand the trends and fads of the people in the name of the common good.

How would that statement go over on TV or newspaper new today?

Do you agree with Hamilton or disagree?

The founders never considered that "member of Congress" could become a life long occupation. Or did they?

I don't believe that they did. They all made their money by working for a living as farmers and so forth. If they were to return today they would probably clean "house"- Senate and White House too!

So many put their wealth into the country and didn't build their wealth from the office.
