What is really sad is that the vast majority of cloned animals have significant defects, some of which don't show up until later, but include premature aging and diseases/infirmities related to aging, malfunctioning and malformed organs, etc. I am terribly, terribly sorry for these children.

    Helen,
I think that is another reason science won't acknowledge this doctors claims.

I'd be surprised if they let anyone verify their claims, like a university or medical centre for example.

In a short while, we may find this organization announcing that their own independent expert has verified the cloning, but no proof will be available for scrutiny.

And the medical defects associated with clones is a compelling argument against using this technology. The strength of human populations lies in the continuing mixture of genes, not a continuing stagnantion.

Here is my take on this story.

Cult group needing income + a woman who gets pregnant by someone other that her husband + demand for babies + cloning in the news = Raelians Cloning Scam of 2002

I wonder what the "donation" is for the 3000 mothers-to-be lined up for the Raelian clones.

The local TV news station here carried the news conference, and as I understand it, they were going to have independent verification of their (Cloneaid) claims.

It seems inevitable that this will be done, and probably sooner than later. Still a very terrible idea, but I will be curious about the verification process. OK, I am curious about everything.

OK, I just watched the interview on FOX news with Rael, the French leader of this group of nuts. He was wearing a spaceman-like suit. I still don't know why they are getting so much media without even one shred of evidence. I guess it is the media's way of giving us a big laugh.

I have to revise my last statement to now indicate I believe this leader impregnated the woman himself the old fashion way and now claims it was done by cloning. My advise to the inspectors: take his blood sample and match it to the baby's, I think that will end the mystery. :D

It's all a big laugh now, but wait until the real one comes, probably in 2003. Scary stuff.

Bearing in mind Helens post about the effects on cloning I do hope we, as christians will not treat this news item as a joke, irrrespective of whether it is genuine

BTW, the UK has already banned human cloning. Any chance of other countries following suit?

I thought human cloning was banned here too. Why ban something, make it illegal, and then allow people to do it. I think the whole thing is sick.

Kate, I understand that it is not banned in usa, but heard somewhere that George Bush was expected to put pressure on either the senate or your other legislature body(is that house of representatives.) Perhaps that can be clarified by one of your countrymen that is reading this thread.

    yours, Jon.

As far as I know, it is not illegal in the U.S., but that the government will not fund it.

Cloning in 5 EZ steps the Rael Way

    1. Swab Donor's mouth for dead cells with a cotton ball.
    2. Send the cotton ball in a sealed baggie along with $2,000 money order to Clone-in-the-Oven 205 Sawyacomin Rd. England.
    3. Wait for our package to arrive containing a pill with your cloned cell.
    4. Have woman swallow the pill and say Hail Rael Rael Rael.
    5. See your doctor in 1 month, If she is not pregnant continue to repeat steps 1-5 each month until pregnancy occurs.

PS Remember to have woman continue having normal relations to keep her body prepared.

    Postit.... "Sawyacoming rd., England"?????????

I think some one must have seen you coming with an address like that. If you had done your homework properly instead of trying to make cheap jokes out of what will be someone elses suffering you would Know tha England has already banned human cloning.

Any serious comments? Try reading Helens post earlier and you will realise that this is no laughing matter, in fact it is quite offensive to see christians responding like this.

    yours, Jon.

Your right Johmagee, this is not really a laughing matter. It just invites jokes when the lies are so big to be beyond taking them seriously. It is a very sad thing that this cult group will take hundreds of thousands of dollars from the victims of this clone scam. I'm sure there are some very wealthy investors that will lose a lot of money in their attempt at immortality. That seems to be the next step the Real is working on. The transfer of all your memories into your clone. At least those were his words in the interview. :(

I understood it to be illegal in the United States as well.

The idea of cloning scares me...how could a man created human being have a soul created by God? Of course I don't know if cloned humans could or would have souls in reality, I guess only God could or would have that answer, but this would be my primary problem with the practice.
