You are right. According to the article at http://www.abpnews.com/www/1021.article "First Baptist Springdale had nearly $12 million in undesignated receipts in 2005 and yet gave only $32,000 -- a mere 0.27 percent -- through the Cooperative Program," Florida pastor Michael Petty wrote May 11 in a guest editorial in the Florida Baptist Witness. "I do not see that as faithfulness and cooperation."

0.27% is almost what the SBC would like new church plants to give to the CP [IMG] .

I don't care about the CP as much as I do about his doctrinal stance.

I agree with Burleson, those issues are irrelevant when it comes to cooperating. So those would not eliminate you from getting my vote. [IMG]

The problem is that you cannot put new wine into old wineskins. Judas was not saved even though Jesus was there by his side. The Jews did not listen to Jesus either.

I have seen little evidence that leads me to believe that the SBC leaders are nothing more than politicians and those who try to get them change them will come up short because those they are trying to get to change are like old wineskins and stuck in their self righteousness.

Anyone who schemes is doing the very same thing Satan does. Their source is the devil. So what does that tell you about their relationship with God and their trust in Him.

According to the book of James, doctrine is proven by actions. Floyd's doctrine is shown in his actions.

Patterson endorses Floyd as a man Southern Baptists need

    by Staff

Paige Patterson, president of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Forth Worth, Texas, released the following statement today signaling his support for the nomination of Ronnie Floyd as president of the Southern Baptist Convention:

“How delighted I am to hear that Johnny Hunt will nominate Pastor Ronnie Floyd for president of the Southern Baptist Convention. Ronnie Floyd has faithfully served Southern Baptists both on the Executive Committee of the Southern Baptist Convention and as a trustee of GuideStone Financial Resources, where he has vigorously supported Dr. Hawkins’ continuing concerns for widows and the pastors of small churches.

“Furthermore, Springdale, Ark., while rapidly growing, is hardly a metropolis. Yet, Dr. Floyd has built one of our greatest churches in a smaller community. Southern Baptists have always highly regarded evangelism and church growth as the sign of a church that inculcates the ethos of New Testament Christianity. Dr. Floyd has done this at the First Baptist Church in Springdale.

“Very few pastors have been better friends to our seminaries than Ronnie Floyd. Several of our schools have been the recipients of a steady stream of preachers emerging from Dr. Floyd’s ministry. In a day in which too few churches are turning out preachers and missionaries, Floyd has produced many, and continues to do so.

“There is one other reason why I believe Ronnie Floyd will make a great President for Southern Baptists. Across the years, whenever he has made a mistake, like we all do, he has always humbly received correction and remedied anything for which a better way could be found. That sweet humility and openness commends him to us all.

“Southern Baptists need a man whose moral fiber is unscathed by compromise with the world in respect to his home, his purity of life, and his integrity. Ronnie Floyd is such a man.”

I just got through spending a whole lot of time on R F's website "winners". I have heard him speak in person before etc...
On his website the namedropping in his bio along with all his accomplishments coupled with his name being on everything is too over the top for me.

I suppose if your not a winner your a loser? I just think that is a poor choice of words to describe the christian life.
His opening for the winners tv show has his face plastered on there at every turn.
HE has always come across as a "hotdog" to me?

He is a Biblical Life Coach? You have got to be kidding me? That is so cheesy and I don't know whatelse to say.

IMHO if the SBC maintains its conservative hold on itself it will rest in the hands of the young pastors of a reform bent in their theology.
Most of the other young guys are dialed in to the seeker friendly, least common denominator in order to work together kind of ministry Where evangelism comes before doctrine. Pragmatic methods which minimize the position of sound doctrine being essential to the vital components of the evangelistic endeavors is destined to fail.

I'm in no way sympathetic to those SBC moderates who like to see trouble amongst the conservative leaders of SBC yet things are going to come to a head in SBC life. The Conv. is either going to go the pragmatic, seeker friendly, easy believism way or the young conservatives who value doctrine over mere numbers are going to make a difference.
Put it this way two guys who are at different ends of the SBC spectrum of pastors, leaders would be Rick Warren and Al Mohler.
Friends Al Mohler would get my vote in a heartbeat. That just shows you how diverse the SBC is. It really can't continue to be that diverse and maintain doctrinal purity. IF it does then the moderates will win the SBC back in another generation or so. More than likely it will be the offspring of the SBC megachurches that were so in love with things like PDL, promise keepers etc... that hands it back to them

I always thought that a man's work will stand on its own without a lot of names. I wonder what Jesus would have done if He needed all those kind of names in His biography?

How do you know this? </font>[/QUOTE]I don't he has the desire to be the next president of the SBC. Reading many things from him it seems his will be willing to defer to another person before considering himself (an admirable trait lacking in many of the ensconced leadership of the SBC.) I have great respect for Bro. Burleson.

I'd also like to mention that the opposition to Dr. Floyd is growing in many circles. This will be an interesting convention, particularly from the standpoint that it is likened to rolling a grenade into a room full of people and seeing if anyone bothers to jump on it. Maybe that's what it will take, somebody taking one for the team...I don't know.

I will also say that there is (imho) absolutely nothing wrong with the children's ministry philosophy of Dr. Floyd's church...in particular the baptistry issue. Call it whatever we want, please realize that there is real follow-up and real counseling going on before and after a child steps into that water to make sure they've really accepted Christ and aren't just trying to get a reaction.

    I still believe:
    1. Dr. Floyd will be the president of this convention
    2. Dr. Morris Chapman is a great man of God with wise, discerning words for our fine convention
    3. Dr. Floyd will purpose himself to impact the local church above all in his administration

I am sure he will negatively. How can a man expect churchs to give to the CP by the example of his church's giving of 0.27% of its receipts when the convention advocates 6-10%.

Doesn't that seem to go against the crying of the leaders such as Paige Patterson encouraging people to give more money to the CP?
