Why do we teach our children to fold their hands when they pray?

Is it because we all have seen paintings of Jesus, the 16th century Anglo version of him, praying like this?

I didn't know we taught people to "fold" their hands.
However, the practice may be as simple as using this to try help children slow down, quiet down, and focus on God. It may be more of a body control technique to keep kids from playing around during prayer.

I was taught as a small child to be still, fold my hands, bow by head, and close my eyes. I was not taught (or do not remember being taught) to pray in private so as to avoid virtue signalling.

Certainly we have listened to fellow believers who engage in public prayer using well worn phrases and sentiments. Rote components of prayer probably do not burnish our effort to engage with God.

I see people in church raising their arms and hands up, but who knows whether this is a genuine outward expression of raising spiritually holy hands.

Because it’s better than letting them pick their nose, pinch their sister, or itch their backside.

Prayer can be done in any circumstance but during quiet times it can be helpful to quiet your whole self.

Theologically rich, and philosophically deep. I can get behind this guy.
