Here one finds two giddy teens trying to look angry. Are they doing this for the attention? They don't look that "theological."

No wonder the Phelpses are inbred. Who else would have them?

They're actually the ones I do feel a little sorry for. The adults should know better. The kids have been raised in this nonsense all their lives. I heard the daughters say once they'll probably never get married and have families of their own, because that's not what they're here on this earth to do. I wonder if they'll feel the same when it's too late.

    love,

==I don't know "why" they do it, but I do know their eternal fate (hell).

God loves people and takes no pleasure in their condemnation. These two girls, and their parents, take pleasure in the death of the wicked. These people are opposed to God, they are enemies of God, and they need to repent.

"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life" -John 3:16

"Say to them, As I live! declares the LORD GOD, I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that the wicked turn from his way and live..." -Ez 33:11

"Do I have any pleasure in the death of the wicked, declares the LORD GOD, rather than that he should turn from his ways and live?" -Ez 18:23

"For I have no pleasure in the death of anyone who dies, declares the LORD GOD. Therefore repent and live." -Ez 18:32

God condemns those who rejoice when bad things happen:

"He who rejoices at calamity will not go unpunished" -Pr 17:5

"Do not rejoice when your enemy falls, and do not let your heart be glad when he stumbles; or the LORD will see it and be displeased, and turn His anger away from him" -Pr 24:17-18

"You have heard that it was said You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy. But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven; for He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have?" -Matt 5:43-45

Scripture could not be more clear if it tried.

Instead of going around condemning everyone they should be preaching the love of God and the good news of Jesus Christ:

"Thus it is written, that the Christ would suffer and rise again from the dead on the third day, and that repentance for forgiveness of sins would be proclaimed in His Name to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem" -Lk 24:4-47

"Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations..." -Matt 28:19

Notice the vast difference between Paul's attitude towards the lost and the attitude of these girls and thier family:

"And Paul said, I would wish to God, that whether in a short or long time, not only you, but also all who hear me this day, might become such as I am, except for these chains" -Acts 26:29

"It is a trustoworthy statement, deserving full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, among whom I am foremost of all. Yet for this reason I found mercy, so that in me as the foremost, Jesus Christ might demonstrate His perfect patience as an example for those who would believe in Him for eternal life" -1Tim 1:15-16

These girls, and their family, need to repent and turn to Christ in faith. They need to stop pretending their own imaginary goodness will save them. They need to stop pretending that they are different from others who need God's grace. If they don't they, like the Pharisee, will go away unjustified while some of the very people they have condemned will go away justified and spend eternity with the LORD Jesus Christ. (Lk 18:9-14).

It's odd, Martin, but if you just look at their body language they seem so normal. It appears to be a casual conversation about boys/clothes/movies/music by the way they act. That's not the way I picture God condemning someone to Hell.

No, they're a couple of giddy (though they are trying their best to be dead serious) teeanagers being interviewed by SkyTV.

Yes, they are repeating what they've been taught.

My question is what will happen to their world when Granpa Fred dies?

You know, I agree with with that observation. They seem so casual about hell, so casual about eternal damnation, they even claim to be happy about it. That is very troubling for several reasons.

    1. I wonder if they actually believe that stuff. When Phelps dies and these girls growup some, I wonder if they will abandon God.

    2. God is not casual or happy about condemnation. I tried to make this point in my first reply.

    3. These girls seem to have no burden of evangelism. Their professed belief in hell seems unreal. If they really believed in hell they would be busy sharing the gospel message instead of judgment and condemnation. I look at Paul, I look at Jesus, and I see a burden for the lost world. I see no joy over the lost, I see a burden for the lost. We should all have that same burden but these girls seem to have a complete lack of it. That of course could be a sign that they are not truly born of God.

Sounds like these girls don't hear their "pastor/grandpa" preach from John very often -- specifically, John 13:35:
"Let me give you a new command: Love one another. In the same way I loved you, you love one another. This is how everyone will recognize that you are my disciples—when they see the love you have for each other."

Ivon, that is exactly what i was thinking. It was like they were chatting at the mall with their friends about the shoe sale they just found. And that is what is so SCARY, the are so giddy about it. I feel very sorry for these people.

In my experience with others like them, one of two very divergent paths:

    1. They become just like Grandpa.
    2. They become two of the wildest fillies you've ever seen in your life.

There's usually not much middle ground, unfortunately. :(

    Hope I'm wrong.

They may be laughing now, but if they don't know Christ, their grandpa's teaching will send them to Hell!

As we said before, so say I now again, If any [man] preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.

Interesting observation, tinytim. Phelps seems to be preaching a works related salvation that non-homosexuality is literally salvation itself. By that standard any straight atheist is saved.

I read an article a few weeks back which said that Phelps has been asked in two different interviews whether he or any of his family are gay, lesbian or bisexual. Apparently on both occasions he dodged the question, when one would think he would surely splutter with rage and deny it wholeheartedly (and no doubt add something about the evils of homosexuality). That to me is VERY strange and it does make you wonder if Fred Phelps is actually insecure about his own sexuality and this takes it out on homosexuals because he hates this part of his personality.

I have also seen an article which speculated that Fred Phelps could be a gay plant, i.e. make people feel sorry for homosexuals by portraying anti-gay people in that way. I think that's a bit fanciful though.

Amen...i've said plenty of times that the Brownsboro group is nothing more than a cult; and i can't stomach calling them either "Baptist" or a "church".

You wonder just how long God will put up with them. I wonder what they would say when some devastating thing happened to their family or church. Would they be saying that it is just punishment from God, and that He hates them?

People rail against their own inner demons. We saw this same phenomenon in people like Ted Haggard, Jimmy Swaggart, and Jim Bakker.

I don't know, I think ignorance plays a big role with the Phelps. Ignorance of the Word of God, ignorance of God (ie...no relationship), and ignorance of life in general. Could Mr. Phelps be insecure about his personal "feelings"? Certainly. However it could also be that his ignorance has lead to dangerous spiritual pride. His wife was on a radio program a year or so ago and she went so far as to almost say she had never sinned (I believe that program was linked from this board). So I think the problem is ignorance and spiritual pride (Lk 18:9-14).
