I think Priscilla's attire would have nothing to do with how well she could expound the word of God. And Aquila was wearing a dress as well, by modern standards that is.

It is not my doctrine either.
1 Timothy 2:12 (New King James Version)
12 And I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man, but to be in silence.

As far as the female contributors to various Bible versions, as long as they were under the authority of men they were not disobedient.

...but because Ms. Riplinger is operating outside of a committee, then she's disobedient?

Btw, if we're going to apply this scripture to all facets of life and not just to church protocol, aren't you in disobedience right now?

Historically, Fundamentalism attacked modern versions such as the RSV which was translated by liberals. They did not make a fuss over all modern versions or even over the Greek text. The KJVO movement did not begin until Ruckman et al in 1970.

Don't try to tell me different. I grew up IFB, educated in fundamental colleges beginning in 1970, graduating in 1976. I was there. I'm a witness. It was divisive. I heard Dr. Lee Roberson say from the chapel pulpit that discussions about Bible versions would no longer be allowed on campus because they were divisive.

And I was there also. JoJ is right. When I was a student at TTU from 1976-1982 Dr. Afman would quote from the ASV. There never was a KJVO issue at TTU, except when the KJVO crowd tried to bring it up.

To my knowledge NONE of the major IBF schools were KJVO until the 1990's sometime.

No, I mean what man has authority over her?

Rufus, are you telling me to shut up? Am I being disobedient by discussing doctrine with men? I'm not trying to teach anyone. Do you not have mixed SS classes at your church? Do you allow the women to talk?

You are trying to teach for you are questioning Ms. Riplinger's authority, according to scripture, to write a book and talk about it. I'm not telling you to shut up for I believe women have a lot to offer and I have learned much from them and I don't think there is scriptural basis to tell them to shut up. However, I think you're misapplying that scripture to everything, rather than applying that scripture to the operations and order of the assembly of saints. If we are to say that women can't write a book or speak about her book because "I do not permit a woman to teach", then using the same reasoning, women need to be quiet because they are "to be in silence".

While I was still a kid in the 70s, I grew up in a very conservative church, and the versions issue was not around. We even had a revival, in which over 40 people got saved in 10 days... and they stuck around.... Some are now deacons, and teachers, and very good Christians, And the preacher use the ASV!

No problems... Not until around 1994 here. Then some preachers started preaching this KJVO stuff, and it started splitting churches....
I am a witness also to this divisiveness... Been there done that.
And it is still spreading through out churches in WV like a virus.
affecting every denomination now. But originally it was brought in by Hyles style IFBs, and a couple pastors that had just graduated from a Bible College in Florida... Pensecola (sp?) (as a side note, one of these pastors criticized and chewed a family out at their own mom's family, for not being loving!! He commanded all the women in the church to wear dresses all the time, and claimed he had the authority to do this because he was the Pastor!) And he was the "star" preachers for a lot of IFBS in WV!

If you look at all of the ones that are KJVO on this board, what is the percentage of them that are IFB?
Is there one KJVO on BB that is not IFB?
If so, I don't know of any. Is this a coincidence?

Now in WV, SBCs, ABCs, and all others have had to deal with this junk.
All because Satan has found yet another way to divide the Body of Christ.

I wish the IFBs were like they were in the 60s and 70s, and even the 80s.
They preached the Bible, and lived the Bible... Now it seems the only things they know how to preach around here is KJVO, Hymns only, and women can't wear pants.

I was at an all night preaching service back in 1998... while I was still KJVO... you know what got the most amens? Preaching against Clinton, and calling all other versions the "P" word!
And every preacher did it... even me when it was my turn...
Yes I fell for the KJVO lies... But God rescued me, and he used BB to help!

How is questioning her authority trying to teach? I don't see that at all. What is it I'm trying to teach? How can you be so rigid about things like pants on women and be so loose about women teaching men? That was my point all along. As far a Ms. Riplinger's teaching, she's pushing a false doctrine and very bad at it at that. I have read some of her teachings and watched some of the video in the OP's link and one doesn't have to be a Bible scholar to see the error in her teachings. The only reason you consider her to be such an authority is because you share her bias for the KJV.

I don't consider her to be "such an authority". There are men that I would consider greater authorities with better arguments than Ms. Riplinger. I just think it's interesting that ya'll focus more on discrediting her education and her gender than you do what she says in her book and in the videos. I'm tired of this topic, grace and peace to ya'll...I'm going to bed.

I bet Amy's husband permits her to be on the BB. Would that be enough authority for you?

Find it odd to see history/practice "rewritten" here.

Men who would NEVER SIT UNDER THE AUTHORITY of Marilyn Hickey, Joyce Meyers or Jill Briscoe, lap up the words of wisdom from the Home Ec professor with an honorary degree from HAC. Hmmm.

Men who say there never was a problem with versions until the modern translations somehow are blind that almost all FUNDAMENTAL BAPTIST SEMINARIES (including the ones I attended) advocated the ASV1901 as the finest English translation.

Men who rip OT laws out of context and make them bondage for the Church today add ANOTHER layer of schism/division on the Body by proclaiming (sans 1 verse of proof) that the KJV(whichever revision they think in the correct one) is the "only" Bible.

Men who condemn "divorce" as a heinous disqualifying sin, sit on the lap contently of a man like Ruckman, now living with one of his student's wives.

The whole movement is devoid of spirituality, Scripture and character. Anathema. Oops. Sorry to use a Greek. It's been replaced by the KJV, ah, er, um, Anathema.

Salamander to Martin: //Let me now ask you, is the Bible the Word of God?//

    But I know the answer.
Perchance we agree, the Bible is the Written Word of God.
Where we disagree is what 'Bible' means.

I believe my HCSB = Christian Standard Bible (Holman, 2003)
    is 'the Bible'.

BTW, Gail Riplinger's NEW AGE VERSION was written
before the HCSB, so she doesn't denigerate my Bible.
    However, while she was writing
IN AWE OF THY WORD she had access to some
early parts of the HCSB. She denigerates my Bible :(

Yes, I will speak against anybody who runs down
    my Bible.

BTW, if you don't read here much, Realise:
I use the KJVs more on this board than
most anybody else. I quote frequently from these
    KJVs:

    1. KJV1611 Edition
    2. KJV1769 Edition

    The KJVs also are Bibles.

Bro Tony: //Interesting, could you provide any proof that
I or any others are liberals. What theological stance have
I taken that proves that I'm a liberal. It is those
who add to the Word, ie. the KJVO doctrine
that have commited a liberal act.//

Here is my definition of liberal.

    Over here:

is my 6th poll on Inerrancy.
    The current results are:

    #6 Bible Inerrancy Poll
this thread has 110 replies and has been viewed 2289 times

View Poll Results: What does Bible Inerrancy mean to you?
-1 the Bible has errors (i.e. is NOT inerrant) 3 3.06%
0 the Bible has minor errors but is still useful 1 1.02%
1 The Bible is inerrant on all doctrinal issues 4 4.08%
2 inerrant on all issues: doctrinal, historic, and scientific 17 17.35%
3 The Bible is inerrant in the original autographs 51 52.04%
4 The Bible is inerrant only in the KJV1611 Authorized Version 9 9.18%
5 inerrant in any English translation based on the TR 1 1.02%
6 The Bible is inerrant in all faithful English translations 11 11.22%
7 the Bible is inerrant as applied by _______ 1 1.02%
    Voters: 98.

IMHO the most liberal answers have the smaller numbers,
the most fundamental answers have the larger numbers.

    My favorite answer is:
6 The Bible is inerrant in all faithful English translations

More liberal than that is the answer:
4 The Bible is inerrant only in the KJV1611 Authorized Version

So the KJVO is more liberal than my viewpoint.

Salamander: //I believe the problem lies in the suspicious
    mindset of you liberals.//

I believe the problem lies in the supspicious
    mindset of you liberal.

P.S. Ms Riplinger leads many men astray :(
