    Agreed!
Medicare could be expanded to cover not just the elderly but the needy as well.
Or a regulated (Yes some regulations are necessary) unified Medicaid in the 50 states.

With fair and equitable coverage for everyone.
We went to the moon, surely we can plan this one.

That ball is in your court. It was you that stated the "poor" are paying the penalty.

I don't consider earning $45,000 a year" poor", and currently a person would have to earn less than that( on average) to pay any sort of penalty. Even then, it's likely they could avoid the penalty.

Illegal immigrants, for instance, are exempt, no matter how much they make.

As is your example of..... "Man makes good money. Around $150,000 per year. Wife stays home and raises their 3 kids.

Man is in a terrible accident that crushes both legs. 7 surgeries and 3 years later he is able to walk again, but only very slowly and with much pain." He's exempt from any penalty.

Nope. The IRS sent them a bill for $1500.

Doesn't mean he has to pay it. According to your description, he meets more than one exemption.

In a certain sense I agree with your post. If the church had been doing its job, it is a lot less likely the government would have gotten their hands in it during the 60s. The problem is the government already owned most of the health care system, and they were the ones with the power to fix it. That is like asking the mob to come up with prison reform. When the lawmakers of both parties are beholding to the corruption of lobbyists and corporate greed, and are dazzled by power and money themselves instead of serving the people, then disaster is certain. At least Donald Trump is trying to do what he said. We need real leaders in the Congress, unlike Mitch McConnell.

What ever the answer is the long term resolution is not the government. Looking to the government to solve these issues is lazy, foolish, and not the original intent of the constitution.

Yes, the catch all basket of the left. Also the most abused part of the constitution. Made to justify every abominable thing under the sun.

Yes helping your fellow man is so abominable. I swear it sounds like you really do loathe the less fortunate.

I doubt that this statement ever meant to encourage slothful, lazy able bodied adult individuals to live off the labor and enterprise of others.

Where in the Constitution does it provide healthcare for vets or even for active duty military personnel?

What then is your solution? The so-called socialist Scandinavian countries provide much better health care and a more satisfying life for their populace as measured by the UN World Happiness Report of 2016.

    Here's the result:

    1. Denmark (7.526)
    2. Switzerland (7.509)
    3. Iceland (7.501)
    4. Norway (7.498)
    5. Finland (7.413)

    13. United States (7.104)

I'm asking the question of someone who made the statement. The burden is on him to support his statement.

"Promote" is not the same as "provide".
