    Bro Ben,

It's not the Catholic in the pew that is the object of anger, but the aristocratic clergy who have held them in bondage with unscriptural dogma.

Don't forget the history of the Church of Rome, the Crusades, the Spanish and Roman Inquisitions, the pograms and slaughters (e.g. St Bartholemew Day Slaughter, The Waldenses Massacres, etc).

Untold numbers of dissenting Christians, Jews and moslems died because they would not bow to the Pope.

What about the history of the Protestant Church? Salem, Massachusetts Bay colony, black slavery, Jim Crow, KKK, the oppression of women, Prohibition, fire bombing abortion clinics . . . this list is long. You will say that it is not all Protestants who do these things. I will was that the world judges us on the deeds of one.

I never said that people hated Mel. I did say that some posts here seem to hate Catholics.

As far as held captive by dogma. Have you even read the KJV only threads? What about how we do communion (since we have stolen only part of the seder and have thrown the rest away, Jesus did a seder not just part of one)? We as Protestants divorced the Catholic Church over legalism and dogma and then formulated our own. And now we divorce or churches over this dogma.

Please do not throw stones from within our glass house of Protestant Dogma/Church. I do not want to get cut.

Wrong again Ben. I don't think anyone here hates Catholics. Do many of us feel like the RC church is wrapped up in Galatian legalism? In that I plead guilty.

What do you say about the Protestant Church? I think that you ignore what some people have wrote in the thread and other regarding Catholic. I have seen some hate.

I am only defending the grace of HaShem. ANY group who adds works to His marvelous grace is in error.

My take is that whatever Mel's beliefs he seems to have produced a movie around which all Christians can rally. I haven't seen it yet but from what I've heard it's true to the biblical account. God uses all types of people to further His kingdom. I myself don't accept many of the Catholic positions but in no way could I say that all Catholics aren't saved because I know some Catholics that are genuine Christians.

The important point is that we all can support The Passion to show the world that there are a lot of professing Christians in America and by assuring a good profit for this movie to get more Christian movies and TV shows produced.

If you go to this movie, be prepared help those touched by it to know what to do with the guilt it will produce. I pray that we will all be midwives at the births of many into the family of God.

    Ben,

There's a lot of truth in your statement above. Many fundamental churches have taken on Catholic-like forms of legalism. Other groups (which you may have more sympathy with) have taken on Jewish-like forms of legalism. The new covenant in Christ should have left all that behind, but without constant vigilance, we all do tend to lapse to the comfort of some form of legalism.

nope. the point is the glory of God alone.

this means we do God's work God's way. yes, we rejoice that some are saved using immoral means--who's to say someone can't get saved watching The Last Temptation or Ben Hur?--but we don't use the immoral means ourselves.

I love Catholics and I love Mel Gibson. I do not love heresy, nor do I love morbid, obsessive, gratuitous, violence. I do not love non-biblical elements thrown into a film so many are calling "accurate" and "it is as it was" etc. I will not see the film and I will warn others of the cultish aspects of it. The unquestioned frenzy is oddly similar to Harry Potter films. There should be a warning that sensitive people, people who suffer from nightmares, anxiety, depression, paranoia, should probably not view this film. Where was the Christian Church when The Gospel of John film was released? I guess since that was 100% Bible, it was too "sanitized" and "sober" to be interesting. Too bad the Word of God alone is no longer exciting to some people.

</font>[/QUOTE]What immoral means are you talking about? After all, this is a commercially developed movie and as such does have a profit motive. People complain that there are too few Chriatian movies and TV programs out there today. How do you think that's going to change? By an action of George Bush, the Congress or the Supreme Court. None of the about. We live in a capitalist country and what is produced is what sells. The alternative is to have a socialist country with a state sponsored church. I would fight that to the death. Taking a line from another of Mel's movies, America is all about FREEDOM........

By making a genuinely Christian, biblically accurate movie, like "The Gospel According To John," that's how.

ew, i wldn't impugn Mel's motives here. first u accuse me of NOT having watched the movie n prejudging it; now u attack Mel's heart.

i don't think he imagined the commercial success it's promising to become. i believe he did it as part of his works salvation ... as i think he's said in his interviews (maybe someone wld have the URL to that). he n "Jesus" Caviezel both did it religiously, celebrating Transubstantiation each day of the making of The Passion. so i wldn't knock him for having a "profit motive."

what's immoral? here's what. calling what's not scriptural scripturally accurate--as has been done by one Christian leader after another. wld a bottler of distilled water dare sell anything but distilled water--but Christianity is past worrying abt getting sued for product misrepresentations. this seeker-sensitive parade has gone too far, n anything that brings in a crowd--n Mel's movie will do a better job thru sheer cinematographic brilliance than The Gospel of John or the Jesus Film--must be right.

o really? n how wld u know so categorically that NONE of us have seen the movie?

but u're right, ecumenism n Romanism is one big soup. biblical Christianity begs to differ, separates fr error, n condemns the false gospel. ecumenism says the gospel of Rome n my (Billy Graham's) gospel r one n the same.

so anything that's ecumenical will also be Romeward. take a look at how much good Romanism's gospel of experience will bring:

remember, Mel's movie's based on the delirious experience of a STIGMATIST nun. ;)

Kiffin, the movie is very Catholic. Then again, Catholics believe in the Bible. So its also very Biblical. Folks here on the BB are still trying to figure that one out. I mean, how the heck can it be Catholic AND have Billy Grahams endorsement [IMG]

It's obvious, isn't? This is just "Lethal Spiritual Weapon" film. Mel likes violent movies with crazy heroes. What could you expect from him? And yes, I will be so bold as to judge his motives and his heart--as far as these are revealed in the film and the marketing frenzy attached to it. This is how the Anti-Christ will be ushered in--no concern for Biblical accuracy, no questioning the hype, love for "the man himself" while ignoring his insanity, all the religious leaders fawning all over him, voila. You got yerself a full-blown Anti-Christ using the mega-church, ecumenical marketing strategies so popular today.

The Gospel of John wasn't shown in my area or I would have seen it. Other than children's movies, I've been to ONE movie in almost 10 years. I'll be seeing The Passion this week and most probably more than once.

You my friend, have issues. At first when you were spreading around your half-truths and lies, it was humorous. Now its starting to move beyond annoying to distubing.

I could, if I so choose, focus on nothing but the negative aspects of what non-Catholics have done in the past four-hundred years and declare that they are the anti-Christ. And I could twist things as out of proportion as you do. However, I would fail to have the love of Christ.
