Our church has a ministry in which our van picks up children for Wednesday night Bible study whose parents are either in jail, on some substance, or hopping from job to job and live in. These are basically good kids who have so much chance to be influenced at this time in their lives. Sometimes those who work with them need all the patience from God they can get. The mission field is also those parents, and sometimes grandparents that is before us.

I agree with you all above, under normal circumstances, it is up to the parent to bring a child up in the Lord.

I wonder if they would have been arrested if they were handing out the Rainbow Bible ( Liberace's) or the Koran. Me thinks not

This is a good reminder to us warning how the world is turning to the points of the End.
    Many Thanks to Sue.
It should be one of the important subjects for the Believers to focus on, that the Judicial systems often block Chritian activities in tricky ways, regarding the preaching gospel, education, Evol and Creation, abortion, American history of Christian forefathers in building up the country, while the same sex marriage is OK ( In Canada, the exchange of the spouses are OK by the court)
I like to know about Madelyn Murray O'Hare case, do you have anything to post?

Can you tell me if it is policy for the Gideon's to inform school personel when they are going to be outside a school, public sidewalk or not, handing out Bibles?

Is US a country of Freedom for Religion?
Can US condemn other countries for their lack of freedom of religion?

Yes, the schools are informed and the Gideons are standing two by two, on the four corners of the school, not anywhere close to their vehicles, and they have boxes of Bibles as SFIC has already stated.

As Tim has stated, they are very Godly men. Some of us Baptists could take lessons from them.

The last time I was crossing the kids when the Gideons were there, a little girl received a Bible and asked if she could have one for her sister who was sick at home that day.

Satan is fighting for our kids and we are complaining about Godly men giving them Bibles??? :tear:

The ones that I have seen not only have boxes of Bibles, but name tags, and a table set up. They also had permission from the school to be on the sidewalk in front of the school...

I was previously in a Faith based organization (a county wide group in which the pastors and youth pastors in the county met at least once a month to plan activities at the schools) One time we handed out candy on the first day of school to just cheer up the students and teachers. The principal gave us permission to stand at the front door and welcome the students.

We also had access to the hallways at lunch to just hang with the children and talk to them. (in both the HS and Middle School) We each took turns with prayer walks each week...

    violence decreased.

The principal and the school board thanked us.
Actually it was their idea to allow us to do it!
We also hosted thank you dinners for the teachers and staff.
hosted tailgate parties at games, and since everyone knew we were pastors, some would talk to us about spiritual things.

We never pushed ourselves on the children, but when they had a problem, they knew who to turn to. The youth groups in the schools became more confident because they saw us youth pastors living what we preached. We developed relationships with teens that led to salvations, and an overall betterment in the atmosphere at the HS.

The Gideon's usually call in advance when they are going to be passing out Bibles, yes. I know this because I have friends in the Gideons.

Is it really that tough? Seems to be a free speech/free exercise issue, absent some local law I that hasn't been mentioned. Citizens are free to hand out copies of the Bible, the Koran, the Book of Mormon, the Communist Manifesto, Watchtower literature and copies of Ann Coulter's books.

What the link in the OP doesn't say is that school officials claim the two had parked their vehicle on school property, which is what they allege to have been the trespassing, not being on the sidewalk.

In any case, I expect it to be thrown out on its merits (or lack thereof) unless the two actually defied an order to move their car from a no-parking zone.

    From www.gideons.org

As you can see, the Gideons do require a phone number for the institution where they will be passing out Bibles. So the school was notified in advance.

I would say this charge was because of an unsaved person complaining, be it the police, or a student, or possibly a parent or teacher... or even a passerby who wanted to hinder God's Word from reaching those who desparately need it.

A hearing is scheduled March 5 in Monroe County Court in the cases, and ADF attorneys are preparing motions to dismiss the charges.

If you allow bibles to be handed out in public school, you have no leg to stand on when an Islamic group wants to come in and hand out the Quran..

Right. The Constitution says you can't discriminate on the basis of religion. If you let one in, you must let all in.

Wrong. All they'd have to do is go to court, and you'd have Q'urans handed out whenever they wanted.

Of course, if the Muslims can show you allowed the Gideons in in the past, you have no choice. They can force you to let them in. So your school board has already made the choice to allow Muslims in.

Brother, what color is the sky on your planet?

There is no court in the land that can "force" children in the public school system to listen to, acknowledge, take literature from, or be in the presence of those trying to turn them into proselytes of their religon.

Can you see a judge banging a gavel and saying, "Alright, Public School 135, your children must listen to the sermons and preachings of the (Baptists, Bhuddists, Muslims, etc....) on Thursday after recess."

    The bottom line is:

We are told that we are to 'Mark them that cause division among us', and to 'Obey God rather than man.'

If man's laws says we have to allow muslims to teach, we have the authority of God's Word that says, 'Receive them not' and 'Have nothing to do with them'.

If any other gospel is preached than Jesus Christ, we are to reject it pure and simple.

No law of the land overrides God's Holy Word.

Here is an excerpt from the link Salty provided. It says nothing about their cars being parked on school property.

Sounds to me like that officer needs training in 'police work' 101...

ok, so let them hand out Korans or Books of Mormons. If someone pitches a fit and that's one of the earthly consequences, then that's once of the earthly consequences. Big deal. We know that God speaks to people through His word and He doesn't speak through the other books. Could Satan get a toehold in someone's life through one of those other books? Yes, but the old deceiver can get that without those books too. We cannot let the threat of "equality" keep us from getting Bibles in peoples' hands or spreading the gospel.
