So, then, you believe this person to be lying? Or is he decieved by Satan? How about the others on this board that have relayed personal experience? Are they also lying or decieved?

I'm not sure which way I go on the issue yet. That's why I'm asking the questions....

Experience must always be measured by scripture. Scripture is the lens by which we should measure all thing from experience to science. I do not know why they believe their experience to be from God, but it isn't. I do not need to know why only that it is or is not.

What I do know is that in many many cases people are only looking for self serving gifts that excites them and makes them look good. I have seen a few miraculous moments in my walk with God but I do not seek them. It is more important to have faith and be faithful in the dull day to day moments and even in the most difficult circumstances of our lives.

It is easy to be for God when life is exciting and going well. The rubber meats the road when at the darkest hour we find that God is enough and only desire to glorify Him.

I agree that this should be measured by scripture. Do you have any scripture to support your belief that this is not of God? Is there any Scripture showing that the Holy Spirit will not give someone the gift of knowledge, in order to glorify Jesus Christ and bring one that is lost to salvation?

The problem I see with this is your characterization is to vague. To call the act of knowing someone's b-day a word of knowledge is weak. And there is no biblical history for such.

Sorry Rev.. The Holy Spirit revealed to Peter that Ananias and his wife were lying... So there is at least one instance of a "word of knowledge" in the Bible.... So the burden of proof is on those that say that the Holy Spirit is limited today, and will never do this again. And I for one do not want to say that God cannot do anything he has done before.

And while you know I am as conservative as can be.. and am very cautious when believing Charasmatic mumbo jumbo... there is a biblical foundation for this.. and NO direct scriptures pointing to Cessation.. the closest we have is 1 Cor. 13.. but again, that is up for interpretation on what it means when it talks about "That which is perfect"...

As for the other sign gifts... I for one have experienced the gift of tongues... NO not the "Jumpastartmyhonda"... junk... I am talking about the REAL gift of tongues...

In Oct 2008, when our newly hired Hispanic Strategist for the WV Baptist convention was being introduced in Spanish by one of our area ministers.. I set in my pew and interpretted what he was saying to my wife.... and the only Spanish I knew at that point was "Como te llama" and "Donde los banos?"!!! But I was able to interpret his whole introduction to the convention to my wife. About 5 minutes worth.. .afterwards, I double checked with the area minister, and I HAD GOTTEN IT RIGHT!...

THAT WAS WEIRD!... but ever since then, God has blessed my ministry with the Hispanics... I think God was showing me that he could use me no matter what excuse I could throw at him, because the language barrier was the one excuse holding me back...

I really know little about 'gifts', but I do believe there should be nothing of 'us' in gifts.
    I do believe in obediance.

Whether its the man in the pulpit, or the person on the street, if we submit to God, he jsut might choose us. Any work that he does, any glory that may happen.... it all comes from him and belongs to him......... or it is nothing at all.
