From Rudy Giuliani's article in the new edition of Foreign Affairs:

"A realistic peace is not a peace to be achieved by embracing the "realist" school of foreign policy thought. That doctrine defines America's interests too narrowly and avoids attempts to reform the international system according to our values."

Typical neo-"conservative" "we must rule the world" garbage from The Mayor of 9/11.

And we see how "well" the neo-"conservative" idealist school of foreign policy has worked during the Bush administration.

The realist school of foreign policy worked out pretty well during the Cold War, if you ask me. We won that war.

"Let's use our influence to make the international system based on American values" -- and then they wonder why people dislike America.

On the other hand, self interest beats being influenced by outsiders to conform to their "values" when they are so obviously wrong.

The response of others is not evidence of that we are doing anything wrong.

It is a reference to the multitudinous mentions of 9/11 that Giuliani makes when stumping in his presidential campaign.

How about everyone just taking care of their own values and stop trying to impose them on everyone else - the Bush administration included.

Nor is it evidence that our federal government is correct.

Our values (at least the values that we are supposed to have) are vastly superior to "world values" so I agree with Rudy in that.

Admirably idealistic, but not very realistic. Hasn't happened in thousands of years and won't happen now.

In that respect, the Bush Administration is no better or worse than the Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, Bush I, or Clinton administrations. Among others.

Actually, the Bush administration is much worse in this regard than the Clinton, George H.W. Bush, Reagan, Carter, Ford, and Nixon administrations.

It is the neo-"conservatives" who are idealistic in thinking that they can impose an American Empire on the rest of the world, particularly the Middle East, in this post-Cold War world.

    Purely subjective opinion.

I thought you weren't biased. I guess it's OK, since you're biased against something and stand for nothing.

If Rudy were to get his way I wonder, would he call it the American New World Order or the North American New World Order?
